Can anybody explain to me why I have a faded wired connection with a ? mark. After I installed Zorin. All my connections were lit up so to speak. I would say about 1-2 weeks. I started noticing that my wired was fading after start up with a ? mark. I have checked this 3-4 times everything is still connected by wire and wireless. I use both. I need wired for my VoIP phone tied to a Satellite Internet. Just makes the phone better. I use the Wireless for my printer/scanner. Which I just got solved after many weeks of trouble. I also use the wireless for others if need be. But the wired connection fading with a ? mark. And still connected is confusing. This is not a great importance. Since I have connection on both wire and wireless.
Check connetions at router and to computer make sure it is plugged all the way in. If it is do you have another cable you can use to see if maybe the cable is failing?
sometimes mine does that and it slips out of the plug socket on my motherboard
Checking the cable was the first thing I did. But I rechecked it to make sure. Now All of my cables are in cord wrapping. Due to cat's chewing on them. Don't ask me how I this.
Ok, I checked to see if I had a spare ethernet cable. I had a brand new one. Plugged it in. And still faded with ? mark.
Hm, perhaps it is a problem with the canonical service which checks that?

If you read the Reddit thread that @Forpli posted someone resolved it with:
sudo systemctl restart NetworkManager.service
They missed off the .service part.

Did You checked if this happens when the Wifi is disabled? Also: You could try to restart Your Router or You PC to check if it helps. Could You post the Output of the Commands sudo lshw -C network and rfkill list please?
Ok, I disabled the Wifi. Wired is still faded. Can't really restart the router. It is a satellite cable modem router in one. I have done a unplug and replug with it sometimes and it really doesn't do to much. I know I am new to this but this command looks weird to me. And what is it?
post the Output of the Cammands sudo lshw -C network and rfkill list
You mean, You have unplugged the Power Cable? That is a Way to do it, yes. How long did You wait until You plugged it in again?
To explain that (should have done it immediately, sorry for that): rfkill list show Your Network Device Status if it is blocked or not.
sudo lshw -C network shows Infos about Your Network Devices like used Chipsets, if Driver and Firmware are loaded etc. IT can help with Troubleshooting.
So, what I want that You do is, type the Commands - one at a Time - in the Terminal (You can directly copy them from here) and when You get an Output, copy this here in a Comment.

Can you please post the terminal output of the commands? Disabling the connectivity checking removes the questionmark, but it's actually better to leave the feature enabled. Are the speed and connection of the wired connection normal or are there problems?
Maybe the question mark has something to do with your VPN. I read that you're using one.
I find that Connectivity Checking indication and setting flaky on Z17.3 with wifi showing [?] randomly on boot. I just toggle that setting on/off and [?] disappears, as wifi is good regardless of that indication.
I have it disabled permanently. When it would disable the Indicator, too, I would it let enabled. But so ...
I also have it disabled, but when tray icon indicates [?], I toggle it enable then back to disable.

Truth be told I did not do any terminal codes. I saw the reddit screenshot. And did that. Then everything started working. I started to notice some changes to Firefox. I don't know about anybody else. But I have been having great issues with Firefox. It wouldn't load, then stop loading. And pages just didn't want to open. Then I had a lot of pop up windows. I think saying Force Quite or Wait in Firefox. This happened dozen times or more everyday for the last maybe 2 weeks. Since I changed that setting. There are no problems in Firefox anymore to date for me. Now I just got back on. And I discovered something new and weird. Said something about "connection failed?" with a pop up window. The ethernet symbol had 3 dots in a row, my wifi was "out" even though I had connection still. I just went into my wifi and clicked. Seemed to fix it. You are right I do have a VPN. Nord. I did look at the settings but still trying to figure it out. At this point I thought a setting change in the system. Was easier. Considering I am still very new and hesitate about Terminal Coding. Don't want to lose my network connection.
So, If I am reading the comments. Others have a problem with "Connectivity Checking"? And just leave it disabled?
Have you considered changing to a more privacy focused browser, like LibreWolf? It is a fork of Firefox but with no telemetry.
