Zorin 17.2 Core freezes after waking from auto-suspend (not manual)

Hi, first time poster and Zorin user. I am keen to make the switch from Mint, it's just so much easier to use. I have one issue though after a mostly seamless install.

On my HP Probook 450 G8 Zorin is set to suspend after 15 minutes when on battery. When it does this and I wake it, the login screen appears but is non-responsive for about 30-40 seconds. Then I can enter my login details and continue.

I have tried to replicate the issue by manually suspending, but for some reason it doesn't have the same problem.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi, welcome to the forums!

Just curious, what happens if you change that auto-suspend duration? Also, if you set it to suspend after some time even when plugged in, does the login screen still become unresponsive?

Welcome to the Forum!

Does Your System run with Wayland or X11? to check that, go to Settings>About and look for a Line called ''Window Manager'' or something similar and look if there stands Wayland or X11. If there should stand Wayland, You could try to use X11 instead. To do that:

Go to the Login Screen (not the Lock Screen) and click on Your Profile so that the Password Field appears. It is important that it is appeared. When it is appeared, You should see in the bottom right Corner a Gear Icon. Click on it and choose the Option Zorin Desktop on Xorg'' and log in and test if it works now.

Thank you for the reply. It's using Wayland. I will try X11 to see if that solves the issue however one of the reasons I'm keen on Zorin is because of using Wayland. Are there any known issues/fixes for this kind of issue on Wayland?

Well, Wayland is a Construction Area. So, it will get Progress. And the Thing is: On Zorin 17, we have Gnome 43. That is an older Gnome Version - and so is the Wayland Implementation on a different Level than You would have it on Gnome 46 or 47. So, You would have to wait until Zorin 18 will come; that will have a newer Gnome Version.

If You want test if it with a newer Gnome Version would work, You could take Ubuntu 24.04 with Gnome 46 or Ubuntu 24.10 or Fedora 41 with Gnome 47 and check if You there still have this Issue. That all depends of Course if this is really the Issue.

Thanks for the info, that helps. It's not a massive issue and given that everything else works extremely well, I can live with it.
