Zorin 17.3 Lite not really going into SUSPEND, fans and ethernet connection still on

Dell Opitplex 5040 SFF Core i5-6500 8G RAM 128G SSD Windows 11 Pro / Zorin 17.3 Lite -- dual boot

Installed Zorin 17.3 Lite on the PC above. All running well with one exception, SUSPEND mode.

When I put the PC into SUSPEND the fan(s) keep running and the ethernet connection stays ON (i.e., the indicator on the Linksys router indicates connected and ethernet and power LED's on back of box stay on).

This differs from my other "older" Compaq PC that uses Zorin 17.3 Core. When I put that PC into SUSPEND, the fans immediately turn of and the indicator on the Linksys router goes off.

I have the power settings for both PC's set identically -- basically everything is set NEVER.

Curious thing about the Windows 11 side of the Dell PC is that SLEEP is not an option (not supported?), only HIBERNATE.

Is there something I need to adjust in the BIOS/UEFI to get this PC to properly SUSPEND.

Look into your BIOS if there is a option "block sleep" at tab "power management". If yes, make sure that it is disabled.

Please disable fast boot and secure boot in your BIOS when using linux and also disable fast startup in Windows.

Please check if the problem with suspend also exists when you try to go into suspend on a different way, e.g. by pressing button in startmenu >suspend.

Ha! You're a LEGEND.

Worked for the power side -- meaning, the power LED on the back of the PC went out and the fans stopped, so PC is OFF as far as I can tell.

I still think the internet connection is live though -- light on Linksys router still ON and the green LED at Ethernet port on back of PC illuminated solid (as opposed to the companion yellow LED that indicates data transfer, yellow is off).

Still, big improvement.

The only thing I was unable to confirm was the fast boot, but I have the hibernate disabled on the Windows 11 side, which is supposed to automatically disable fast boot, or so I've read.

Yes, when hibernation is disabled in Win 11, fast startup in Win 11 is also disabled. But take a look in your BIOS if there is a option for fast boot that is still enabled.

If you don't need the function you can also turn off "Wake on LAN/WLAN" and/or "USB Wake support" (but then you must press power button to turn on your computer) if it is enabled. They are in the same tab "power management" in your BIOS. Perhaps that helps.

Tried your most recent suggestions. Linksys light still on when I put in SUSPEND but gonna called it good enough.

I do note that when I wake it back up (using the ESC key) a quick message appears in the upper right corner of the screen that says something to the effect of -- Connection Established you are now connected to Wired Connection 1 -- so that seems to me that while in SUSPEND there is no active internet connection even thought the Linksys light is still lit. Again, no biggie, I just like the way my older PC on Zorin 17.3 Core also is able to turn the Linksys light off for it's wired connection when I put it in SUSPEND. And I guess that's another thing to add, all my connections are cable I don't use WiFi. Lastly, the older PC is put into SUSPEND via the sleep button on the keyboard, whereas the Dell I have to go through the Zorin start button to get to the power icon and then to LogOut/Restart/ShutDown/Suspend/ Switch User menu.

Thanks again -- the fact that the fans/power is off was the bigger issue and that is now SOLVED.

Try it with the sleep button on the keyboard or a shortcut. This should not be a problem. The automatic switch to sleep mode via the screen saver/power saving settings is often more problematic. However, as this is not the case with all computers, simply test what works for you. Some computers have problems with devices (keyboard, touchpad...)/services (WLAN...) not being activated correctly when they wake up.

Tried swapping keyboards, the "old" PC keyboard has a sleep button, the current Dell PC keyboard (it's actually and ancient Compaq keyboard) doesn't. Result=NG

Swapped keyboards back to original config and created a SUSPEND keyboard shortcut for the Dell. Result=NG

Not an issue -- although I am curious as to why the Ethernet card on the Dell won't power down in SUSPEND -- could just be the way the Dell is setup I guess. That said, I am assuming it's not powering down because the lights remain on (Ethernet card LED and Linksys connection indicator) -- however, I do believe it is "disconnecting" based on the Connection Established you are now connected to Wired Connection 1 message I get when coming out of SUSPEND.

Might Google around as time permits -- but as stated above, no crisis, more of a curiosity at this point.
