Zorin 18 Boot Issue with Nvidia

Hello,

On boot if i choose the option to use nvidia drivers for newer cards, i have a 5070Ti, the drivers are not detected, even zorin saying its installing them, and i end up with this error :

Failed to start ubiquity.service ubuntu live cd install

If i choose the first option which is boot normally with default drivers, its boots but get o the desktop and its on low resolution.

Does anyone knows what could it be?

PS : If i install with default drivers and then install the open nvidia does it sorts the issue maybe ?

Thank you
Cheers

Yes, this is what I would try.
Install disconnected from net and do not check the option to install additional drivers.

Once installed, you can run

sudo apt update && sudo apt install nvidia-driver-580 nvidia-dkms-580

The DKMS is Dynamic Kernel Module Support - which allows rolling the driver to the next kernel should you upgrade it, without needing to reinstall the drivers.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply and i do apologise for my late reply.

I have sorted the issue, seems that the newer cards like mine 5070ti dont like the nvidia driver for some reason.

But they do work with the open driver, so i followed your indication, but with the open 580 driver and its working without issues.

Thank you
Cheets

Yes, Nvidia is fun. Next time, I am going AMD...

It's not just nVidia. I bought an RX 9060 XT and while the system detected it I couldn't render video files using Handbrake. Everything was a black with audio only. Just wanted to say AMD can have issues too.
