Zorin 18 Hangs Requiring Restart

Zorin 18 hangs repeatedly……I’m sorry I switched from Windows 11 (which never did hang) for this unstable junior high school science project.

Welcome to the Forum!

First: I understand the Frustration when Technology doesn't work the Way it should. I guess everyone can understand that. But: Strong Language and Insults doesn't help. So, I deleted that.

So, now to Your Issue: What exactly do you mean with ''hangs''? Do You mean that the System freezes or do You get a Black Screen or do the Monitor freezes? Could You specify that please?

Besides that some basic Questions for Troubleshooting:

  • Is Windows still installed? If yes: Is Fast Start-Up in Windows disabled?
  • Are Secure Boot and Fast Boot in BIOS disabled?
  • Is Your BIOS in UEFI or Legacy Mode?
  • What Tool did You use to create the Bootstick?
  • Did You had run Zorin in Live Mode? If yes: Did it run properly?
  • Does Your System run in Wayland or X11? You can check that with the Terminal Command echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
  • Could You post Your Hardware Specs?

I switched to Mint and no more system hangs. Perhaps Zorin 18 is a great distro for many but not me. I’m tired of tinkering and “try this” and “try that”.

I switched to MX Linux XFCE myself last year. Great distro.

As I said here:

If the end user is jumping through hoops to get a distro to install or work, the proper course of action is to explore distros that might work with less headache.

For a very large number of Zorin OS users, it works out of the box. But there is no distro that suits everyone. In GnuLinux, we have great variety and many ways to get a workbench setup. Don't settle - Choose the best that you experience.
