Zorin 19: What features would you like to see?

In ClamUI, You have Settings for setting up Scans. So, You can set up a System Scan one a Week for Example or other Intervals.

But to have said that: The Project is relatively new. The current Version is 0.4. So, it could have Bugs and Issues.

Would I first have to uninstall ClamAV via terminal? It might be worth going to ClamUI, but I really want to eventually learn scripting after I reach a basic level of Security. With AI running Amok I don't know if that's going to be possible though! IT Techies who know the terminal can use there own AI Scripts nowadays to keep there systems running with periodic security checks I understand. At my level I don't know if I can learn quickly & the amount I need to catch up to the accelerated rate of what's if required to achieve that fleeting feeling of Security!

Hi, I posted an update on ClamUI elsewhere. There have been higher numbered releases but they have bugs. 0.4 is the stable release and you also need another package that @Ponce-De-Leon posted recently which I was not aware of.

Basically I would follow the install commands on the GitHub page of the project. My personal preference is to use the project's .deb package and use Gdebi to install it.

I would advise you take a look at the Unofficiaal Manual for Zorin 18 that I wrote here:

I need to include anothet application too, Lynis.

The manual for 18.1 is still w.i.p.

I have been using ClamUI for a couple of months now. It picked up a couple of PUAs last week. I do have a couple of App Image programs running (Audacity 4 and Ocean Audio) so it's possible they were the culprits. It does seem to get data updates quite often.

I suspect that with more people ditching Windows and moving to Linux, the bad guys will see this and viruses will become a bigger issue on this side of the tracks.

Bring it up to Ubuntu 26.04 - don't lack two years behind Ubuntu's development cycle.

Zorin 19 will probably be based on ubuntu 26.04 - but yes, it will be released much later than ubuntu 26.04 itself.

With some repetition of things others have already said, here's my list:

  • remove snap by default, but add a one-click setup for it like the Windows software support thing
  • either pre-install something line GearLever for AppImage integration, or do another one-click thing like for Windows software support
  • browser choice dialogue during install or on first boot because forcing Brave on everyone is horrific
  • kernel management GUI
  • stop lying about the minimum system requirements for non-Lite versions (2GB RAM is only enough for gnome if you want to use your computer as a paperweight or decoration)
  • move away from gnome because the gnome devs are actively and openly anti-user
  • better file manager; dolphin or caja get my vote
  • some sort of wizard for setting up, or pre-installed, adblock and security DNS filter; e.g. pre-installed hblock, GUI to pick alternate DNS like quad, AdGuard, etc.

@Ultrabenosaurus with move away from GNOME ... what do you mean?

  • Several DE choice selection during installation? (as CachyOS is doing)
  • just any other DE? (like Cosmic or KDE)

I'm personally a big Plasma fan, though they already have a solid Xfce version with all their customisations, so...

A choice would be great, but likely completely impossible due to the whole point of Zorin basically being the awesome UI customisations that make it very approachable for new Linux users. The fact they're currently planning to kill off the better DE in favour of gnome garbage, completely undermining Zorin's stated mission of reviving older hardware, shows that the brothers don't feel they can maintain 2 sets of DE customisation, so asking them to maintain even more is out of the question.

I probably haven't tried even half of the DEs and WMs out there, but of the ones I have I only dislike gnome and generally feel that Budgie is too lacking; any others I'd be fine with.

It would be great to have more extensive color customization and a style similar to Anduin OS, which features excellent graphic design and is highly refined and customizable. Of course, the customization shouldn't be made overly complex, but a few improvements to color management would be a nice touch.

When is version 19 coming out?

I agree for the browser of our choice !
I am using Zorin and Mint and it's true, i do like a lot Nemo as file manager. But when i am using Gnome, i like to adapted my way of working, i know Gnome quite well. If a feature in Nautilus could be developed that allow to keep different size of thumbnails depending of the folders, such as Nemo does it, this will be a kind of "game changer" !

Hi, you should take a look at PCLOS Debian. They have different DE's for both Debian 12 and 13. DE's include budgie, Cinnamon, KDE Plasma-mini, KDE Plasma, MATÉ, xfce - probably the nicest xfce I have come across:

There is no Release Date yet. And it will take not less Time until something will be announced.

I thought something the latest linuxlite offers, a game centre that allows the user to install various game clients (in the preferable method for zorin - apt, flatpack, or snap), game focused kernels, gaming supplementary software, drivers, proton versions etc. from a centralised software centre.

I wasn't going to suggest kernel switching but a lot of suggestions already, so maybe but feel its not quite fitting zorin's focus.

Some extensions to be included by default, like picture in picture always on top (or a setting you can toggle). gnome 51 does have the option to turn off the touchpad when a mouse is plugged in, but zorin is likely to be gnome 50 (as was ubuntu 26.04) so having an extension like Touchpad Switcher or backporting the setting to gnome 50.

I do like the idea of the extension ChromaLeon (not compatible with gnome 46 and hence zorin 18), dynamic switching of accent colours based on wallpaper could be something to incorporate into zorin appearance. there are a few other extensions focussed on appearance, like blur my shell, which could be incorporated into a more feature rich zorin appearance.

gnome 50 doesn't have native cloud storage integration (like google drive) because some dependencies have been unmaintained. not sure if the zorin team want to take over maintaining some of these dependencies (all of gnome would benefit) or maybe include a more user friendly rclone setup.

Yes, I believe this will be the thing. They want to catch Windows user and give them a save harbour. Most of those do not care or know about different DE options and likely do not care. Thus GNOME for still some versions. KISS

That is what I guess as well, put my money on it. Knowing that many Windows users do play and Bazzite and SteamOS received a lot of attention lately. I guess Zorin wants a part of the gaming-community-cake. If Zorin will convince one, they might tell it to their peers/followers and the chance is high that the others will convert as well.
Back in the days when I was young, whenever I bought a new desktop, my parents received the old one. Like this they had something decent. So, if Zorin would be installed on my computer, my parents would need to live with it :innocent:

Having said this, I guess Zorin19 will integrate some cloud/online options in a better way, as many people have their Google or Microsoft 365 account or subscriptions and will keep these (for a while)

Gaming on Zorin OS is always likely to be a dangerous thing to promote to new Windows converts, especially officially, given that it uses an LTS base and can lag behind kernel, hardware, and software releases by a considerable margin.

Would love to see Waydroid or an other preinstalled on 19 Pro.
If can play my Adroid games in a nother way thats fine to.

At the end of 2027 (09-12/2027), before that comes 18.2 (probably within a month), and next spring 18.3, these are supported to 06/2029
