I've been using Core 18 a few months without this issue, but today Core logged me out twice while watching a 1 hr video I had just downloaded yesterday. It happened once after I stepped away for a min. (screen was still on when I returned - I hit the play button & was logged out). The other time it happened while the vid was actually playing. Both times it closed everything and I had to start over, same as with a restart. Suggestions?
Have you watched videos before, and everything worked fine? Is this a new problem?
To prevent the screen from going to sleep during video playback, you can use the Gnome extensions Caffeine or Espresso. Then you won’t have to adjust the screen saver settings every time before playing a video (Linux often doesn’t recognize that the computer is active during video playback and shuts and goes into suspend mode). The gnome extensions prevent this behavior.
I'm not sure if it helps in your case.
Was this everytime with the same Video Player? If yes: What do You use? Does this happen, too when You watch Videos online on a Streaming service or YouTube?
Yes, I've watched vids online with no issues (exept in Freetube, which is another matter & I have removed the program). But this video I downloaded, & this is the first time I've ever been logged out. I will try your suggestion when I have a bit more time - thx.
This is the first time I have downlooaded a vid, so I don't know yet if it will happen with all downloaded vids. I'm using the defalut app, just called "Videos". And no it doesn't happen when watching online or streaming (at least not yet).
Maybe try VLC instead. It offers better Support - especially for Codecs.
And the Point Codecs: Did You have installed all Codecs? When You open Gnome Software and scroll down, You see a Button called ''Codecs''. Click on it and You get a List with Codec Packages. Install them all.
Over the Terminal, You can install more Codec Stuff (incl. VLC) with the Command:
sudo apt install vlc ffmpeg ubuntu-restricted-extras
A Note for the last Package: This is a Bundle and includes Microsoft Fonts. Because of that, You will get a Prompt for Licence Agreement. Navigate with the Tab-Key to ''ok'' and press Enter to accept.
