Zorin doesn't start anymore

I'm a bit confused. I got my Zorin installation running for two years and I never had any troubles. Today I lost network connection (which happens sometimes and only a restart helps) while in a meeting and I restarted the PC. And for some reason Zorin doesn't start anymore since.

Grub appears, starts into Zorin, I get asked for my encryption password, it's doing the storage tests and then the Zorin logo appears and pulses forever. Waited for over half an hour, nothing changes, it's normally done in less than 5 seconds:

Then I tried more options and tried older kernel versions, same result. Loading into recovery mode (and normal boot after) works. The graphics driver aren't loading but the system starts and functions.

So I'm assuming it's a problem with the graphics card driver? Can I check or reinstall those? I never had to install drivers for my GPU so I'm not sure how to check or reinstall those. I have an AMD GPU.
Installing the driver/installer from AMD for Ubuntu 24.04 (.deb-file) didn't work, running it returns "Unsupported OS".

Any ideas?

Just as a first step, can you check here:

Thank you for your quick answer!
I ran the commands, they went through successfully but it's still the same after the restart. /:

Have you yet tried using the nomodeset parameter?

I set nomodeset in grub and now it loads into Zorin without drivers on default. No more Logo loop but the drivers aren't being loaded either.

What is you AMD GPU model?
could you give me the output in terminal of

apt-cache policy linux-firmware

It's a Radeon 7900 XTX

Result of the command:

Thanks a lot!

with this older linux-firmware set could you remove nomodeset parameter from grub and try to boot with older kernel now, like 7.0.0-34 ?
and also 6.17
but not with recovery mode option

It works!!
7.0.0-34 without nomodeset works again.

Thank you very much! Can you explain what's the cause of this? Did I make a mistake? Is it preventable in the future for me?

Also: linux-firmware is still on hold - should I unhold it?

I think it's AMD driver regression, for now stay like this by setting the older kernel to default, following this tutorial

If I were you I would stay with linux-firmware on hold because you ever test with recent linux-firmware and older kernel and you didn't boot correctly
