I wanted to talk about the forum for a while now. But that will come later in this topic. There are things that I have been reading. To learn more about Linux in the last few days. I normally don't talk this way. But I need to say some things. I know I am at the bottom. And I am not very techie. I barely made it by on Windows. But I need to say these things.

I can't remember all the details of the topics. For starters AI in Zorin. I didn't like the copilot AI in Microsoft with no choice. I don't know to much about AI. It is just way over done. But I think if it is maybe used and I do mean maybe. AI in the right hands of the right people with very little. It could be useful. But I still don't know.

When I was shopping around for a Linux Distro. Zorin kept popping up. I checked it out. Knowing a little about Linux and the community support. I looked at the forum. I thought this was a great setup and look and feel. All the other distros. Look Ok, but the forums to me. For a new Linux person. Looked like newspaper classified ads. Dating my age now. What Zorin did with their forum was a pleasing look and organized. I like that. It is easy. I am still learning though.

Some of the distros that @swarfendor437 suggest look good. And it seems like there is knowledge with that , been around the Linux block for a while. Even saying the statement. Something about. "The land of the Free." Comparing Linux to Microsoft. Don't get me started on that. I have my own feelings about big business controlling the people more than the Governments. Then I got into something I hate to say this another user was attaching @Ponce-De-Leon about the choice of a username. Not knowing the history of language and meanings. There were a few other things mentioned but that is what sticks out. Then I saw something against @Aravisian, then having to defend oneself.

I don't know about any of you. But I chose Zorin for the OS, and the Forum. Not being like a newspaper classified ad setup. I think the forum is the best one out there. Better for a new Linux person too. I thought the whole idea of a Linux community was to help each other, and maybe along the way. Learn about each other and become friends and family. Not tear each other down and do personal attacks.

I was in one of my topics with @Aravisian the other day. And the kernel got brought up. I said I had been shy to bring it up. I didn't know anything about what it was. It was explained to me. The kernel was the "spine of Linux". Holding everything together. Isn't this forum a form of a spine. Holding all of us together. New to Linux and the higher ups that have been around and know what they are talking about. But at the same time not looking down at the new ones. Which I like. Concerning the ZorinGroup not being publicly involved. Isn't the CEO of a major "Cash Making Company" in front. But a Free setup is a bit different. I think they would have to be very very smart to code and form this OS. I don't know about how things were overseas. But I think of the American Pioneer Days. When the settlers came together to help build a Barn for someone else. I think of the wood mill owner cutting the different wood. So the "community" could build the barn. I also thought of a TV show that I saw. Someones barn burnt down. The insurance wouldn't pay. A community leader pulled everyone together. To help the person in need. I don't know what kind of response I will get but I had to say something.

Yup. That is what this forum is aimed at.
Sometimes conversations drift off topic, get crossed up and cranky, but usually come out on top.
You will read the phrase "we all started as Linux newbies at one time" (or similar words), and it's a fact you will never know it all. So it needs more heads and more angles of attack to solve some issues. Oh, and a little patience.

Fortunately, there are very few attacks on Linux newcomers or among users here, which I really appreciate - and that’s why I’ve stuck with Zorin and the Zorin forum. The moderators take great care to ensure that the tone remains respectful and that everyone treats each other kindly. Anyone who notices a post that violates the rules of conduct can report it by clicking the flag icon below the post.

Unfortunately, it still happens occasionally that someone gets attacked. However, this mainly happens to those who want to help others.
It really helps when others see that and then step in to support you.

Some people get so upset when their computer doesn't work the way they want it to that they take their frustration out on the people helping them. And we're not psychics who can always immediately diagnose the right cause of every problem and are also sometimes in hurry, distracted or just tired.

No, you are not. You are a User like everyone else here. You are free to bring Things up. And when You do that in a polite Tone, nobody will say something.

@Forpli that I understand when our computer doesn't do what it should do. When I was dealing with my scanner issue. I was getting it. I told @swarfendor437 privately by message. But I will let others know. Brother seemed to make things more difficult for me to understand. I was doing the terminal code all over.

I look back at it now it was pretty simply. I had already installed the scanner driver, just didn't know it. I couldn't follow the instructions that brother had. I think it was @wesoliv429 who got me through it. Also learning how to do screenshots really helped. So, my helpers could see what I was seeing. And I needed to plug the USB, hardwired to install the scanner. Brother never said anything about that.

I did set up the wifi scanner right after and this is weird. It works on the wifi after being installed from USB. But give it a moment in time. And it doesn't find the scanner. So if I want to scan. I have to plug in USB to do it.

A course none of you know my troubles before all of this. In brief. I did my research. Everybody online and questions typed in search said HP was the way to go. I even downloaded (HPFLIP). Couldn't do it through the website. Or software installer. I had to find a code online. Then I installed it through the terminal. That was the easy part. Not knowing coding.

I installed the printer through the HP website (Forced). Because HPFLIP said no device found or something like that. kept telling me to switch my OS. "After I already switch to Linux with great deal of troubles". After the printer even said Linux Support. I got to HPFLIP (I think this is the spelling) Still couldn't find the device. Went to get a USB and extension cord for USB. Still nothing. 4-5 hours later returned; the same thing. Bought the brother. Said Linux Supported. I even downloaded drivers before buying. To test.

So, I was already having frustrating issues with my "printer scanner" before reaching out to the forum.

@Ponce-De-Leon that helps with the paragraphs. When I was typing it. It kept sending me to a "draft" and then not letting me finish. I don't know if it was to long. Or I was having some weather coming in. And I do have a satellite internet. The weather will knock out my internet sometimes.

I thought this forum was like a email. Let me explain. I try and do good grammer, and break up with paragraphs in my email. But over time I have realized email does not care. It just becomes all one. Which makes it hard to read. I even learned that I don't need to reply multiple times. I can reply maybe once. "Yea" I just need to add the users to address who I am talking about.

I am not really used to this type of stuff. I know in modern times social media is a big thing. But I refuse to even use it. I will look up businesses that has an account. To contact them, but I don't use social media.

So, this forum communicating is new to me. I am learning and evolving. I am getting better with Zorin. Now if I can just get to a point of not being so scared about coding in the terminal. And screwing something up, like rebooting my network. When I was having problems with my "Wired ? mark". Maybe I should start to read my "Linux for Absolute Beginners 4th Edition book, by Andrew Warner."

My 'business' is virtually non-existent because at the bottom of each page I make it quite clear, 'Not on Social Media'. I will never sign up to it or other time-wasting Apps. :wink:

Nope. I am not on Facebook, never have been. Never did myspace. Instagram. Snapchat... none of it.
Which means...
I have too much time on my hands and spend it tormenting the Zorin Forum.

Unfortunately some people are pressured to "join the crowd". My son-in-law used Facebook and Instagram for access to his business. I thought he had lost his Facebook account, but it wasn't, it was his Instagram account. Out of the blue a Meta A.I. engine banned him for no reason. He had 24 hours to appeal. He did this as soon as he had been notified. Twenty minutes later an A.I. response stated his appeal had been rejected, again with no evidence. It would not surprise me if ruthless competitors could have been behind it.

I remember reading an article about Google's pay per click advertising scheme where vendors advertising their business would have to pay Google for every visitor that clicked on their advertisement. The owner attended an engineering business conference to promote his business. When he got back home he faced such a big bill from Google it practically put him out of business. He suspected competitors had undertaken a repetitive adclick exercise as they saw his business as a threat to theirs, but there is no way of telling.

You could always get your spanners out again, or have you packed up all your automotive work?

I also avoid social media for the sake of social media. Prefer face to face socialising.

Yes, especially for us non-alcoholics. That said the local pub does offer free water. But it's not something I do these days. Always have been a bit of a home bird.

But being pre-diabetic I have to limit my cake intake. Oh yes and de-caff' tea for prostate. Isn't life fun (in my best Raymond Reddington facsimile).
I also am watching the carbs.

On the shopping list today was wholemeal wraps. 23.6 g of Carbs per wrap. I purchased my own white wraps with 66% less carbs than a standard wrap, but the catch? Wholemeal comes in a pack of 8. Healthy alternatives are smaller and only come in packs of 4. Perhaps that is how they actually reduce carbs, smaller wraps!

@zabadabadoo as long as it is casual drinking. Not over done. Hanging out with friends and talking/catching up. I should add or anything that you want to drink.

While I don't have social media on my phone, and rarely use it on a computer, a farm across the road from me has gone bankrupt. All the owners are foreign investors, and they've basically abandoned the 9 dogs. There's a young woman whose job it was to care for them but she's not been paid for months. Poor lass is driving 2 hours a day and buying food for them out of her own pocket. So, I'm getting on social media - Facebook - to see if I can help to find homes for them. She's already re-homed 3, so 6 to go. I hate to say it but I don't know where I'd go to find people willing to take them on without Facebook. We're in a heatwave, tomorrow it's forecast to reach 41 degrees C, or 106 F!!! The dogs have almost no shade. :downcast_face_with_sweat: They have all their paperwork in order, are microchipped and vaccinated. I'm hoping!!!!

As we were saying in another thread, we must use the tools available to do the job at hand. Now, I wonder if Facebook will even allow me to log in!
