Hello!
I have been using zorin 18 on my steam deck in a few weeks. However, suddenly after restarting the system i logged in with a 1080p screen, which is wierd bc my monitor is 4k. I went to Screen options and i found out that a ghost monitor is connected "RGT 24". This monitor does not exist and it's not what i use (mine is from samsung and much bigger). The biggest issue is that this ghost monitor only goes up to 1080p while mine goes up to 4k. Therefore, suddenly, out of nowhere, i cannot use 4k anymore. Does anyone knows a solution?
Thanks in advance
Welcome to the Forum!
So, you have a Steam Deck and You connect it to a Samsung TV/monitor, correct? That worked until now. How is it connected? HDMI, DisplayPort? Did Yu changed the Type of Connection or the Prot of Connection?
Its like the image, as it has always been this way. If i plug directly to my usbc it works as intended, but then i cant connect my mouse, keyboard, etc
Now, its connected through a HDMI. The conection is identical. Actualy, the issue started not after a fresh restart. Suddenly the resolution was 1080p and i was like... "wtf?". I restarted my SD and then i got this problem. So maybe it started while it was on. In case its relevant, i had the same issue with bazzite, but it dissapeared after a fresh restart.
Usually, those kinds of devices are powered, not simple pass through, as power is generally required, to do the handshake. Maybe try another one of those devices, that require wall power.
Having said that, I do notice you said the issue started, after a restart. I don't own a Steam deck, so I don't know what options it has.
And yeah, I know what you are talking about with only having a single USB port, thats how it is for my tablet, can't power it while also using a wired device. I think its a major oversight, to force people to use bluetooth, just cause it only comes with a single USB port, but thats the BS manufactures pull these days.
It is powered by a 100 watt charge. I never had an issue except for one time when the same bug happened on Bazzite, as i mentioned. What confuses me is that it was working for several weeks. Why only today this happened?
Hmm ... what HDMI Ports are these? 1.4, 2.0, 2.1? And does the Cable support them?
I think it's 2.1? I remember i checked that when i bought. Either way, i turned my SD off and went to sleep. In the other day i woke up and turned my SD on (you know... living my life as usual). For some reason... the monitor was correct once again. Finally it detected my Samsung monitor. However, it only gave me up to 30hz on the screen options (why??). At least i could use 'xrandr' commands to force 60hz.
Such a crazy bug. It happened out of the blue and fixed out of the blue too.

There are 3 places you can check and set the refresh rate, for your display. One is in Displays.
If you have an Nvidia GPU, you can also set your refresh rate in, Nvidia X Server Settings.
If you have Compiz installed, you can also set it there as well.
I tried the first option as you suggested in your post. There was no 60hz option, only 30hz and bellow as if my monitor didnt support 60hz. My steam deck uses amd, not nvidia so i don't have this nvidia software. I also dont have Compiz installed i think.
Either way i did force the 60hz option using terminal command (xrandr commands). Now it seems to be fixed. Im not sure if im supposed to mark the thread as Solved or not since the bug disappeared out of the blue replacing for another bug that at least it had a known solution.
edit: this is marked as a solution. However, as i stated the bug solved without me doing anything. It just fixed by it self. The xrandr command was used to solve another bug that appeared after the first one was solved.
I will mark your last post as
Solution , assuming your xrandr commands method is a final fix. If not, do come back here.
