Is this fixed or do you still have the issue? Here's a thought.. instead of disappearing for weeks on end only to reappear and say it still isn't working, after you marked a solution, is counterproductive. Try shutting the machine down when you walk away and are done using it for the day?
I do this regularly. I also shut the lid, but have it shut off the screen on ac, standby on battery ...i never run into this issue. But I'm not using gnome. I found a more stable DE that integrated well with Zorin and is beyond customizable (without things changing in every version).
You may want to attempt to update your bios also... this could make things not work.
