Zorin on external ssd

created an external zorin ssd in win 10 on new Acer laptop now cannot boot windows 10 without the external zorin ssd connected

Is there an EFI partition on the drive with Windows?
You can repair the windows Bootloader, there.

Installing Zorin must have detected the Windows Bootloader when the external drive was plugged in and therefor, wrote the bootloader...

Which in turn would explain why the drive must be connected. It expects that drive to be there in order to boot into things properly. If the drive was suddenly missing, it doesn't know what to do.
