Zorin OS 18 is out already?!?!

I think that using A.I. to do work for you is the likeliest thing people will do with it.
On Science Forums; we enjoy answering questions, including to students and authors writing SciFi, but consistently must remind members we can help lead them to how to find an answer, but will not do their homework for them.

This is what marks the difference between an LLM and a human. What we are calling A.I. is... misleading.
LLM's are not Artificial Intelligence because they cannot think.

They operate by pattern recognition. They do not "read" the input; they organize it against known patterns. They then produce a pattern to match that input as output.
They have no thoughts, no feelings, no desires... and no ability to question their own answer. In other words: Very Exploitable.

In neuroscience, it is critical to avoid assumptions.
Brain efficiency is far more productive than brain activity.

If the claim is that a lot of people will use A.I. to do work for them instead of as a tutor to Refine the work to improve and enhance it - I would easily believe that.

What is the difference between blindly accepting an answer from A.I. - and blindly accepting an answer from some person?
What is the difference between A.I. making mistakes or giving misleading information - and a person doing the exact same?

A large percentage of any population will just accept statements without fact checking or verifying.
This was already true before A.I. (LLM's).
We see it all the time.
At least the A.I. has less bias and it does a lot of fact checking before producing output. So while it can mismatch a pattern from time to time; it probably can hold a better batting average than a lot of biased and opinionated people that flood the internet with... Ideas and Speculations.

Every species follows the path of least resistance, this is because, doing things the easy way, expels less energy. Water also flows the path of least resistance, perhaps everything does on planet Earth IDK.

With that said, it should be no surprise to no one, that a child will use LLM, to do their homework for them. Put in the least amount of effort possible, to achieve the goal. When I was a kid, there were no LLM.

Sure, there were times where kids plagiarized others work, but teachers easily detected it, and kids would get an "F" or detention. With LLM, its a lot harder for teachers to tell, unless they know their students really well.

Now, if a person used LLM to supplement their paper, that would be a different story. Kids using LLM to do their entire homework, is the very definition, of following the path of least resistance. I'm pretty sure its bread into our genes, in order to survive the wilderness.

Absolutely spot on.

We see it everyday in the way people behave, for instance, when choosing to wait a line for an escalator to avoid climbing up a few stairs; in how people eat junk food instead of cooking a proper meal; in how they trade convenience for control over their personal information.

Even things like basic math or handwriting have become difficult, ever since smartphones took over people's pockets.

I'm guilty of some of those things myself, of course. I also like convenience, but I have to fight it every once in a while because I can tell that it affects me. And I also see it in others around me, almost every day, in one way or another.

Bad things can turn into good things. With the firmware problem being exposed, the developers have the time to tidy it up before Zorin 18 release
