Zorin OS Lite install

Hi guys, im new to Zorin OS and im using the Core version. I wanted to know if i could install Zorin OS lite desktop without losing my content, and maybe change from Lite to Core on boot, if that is possible.

Yes, you can install the zorin lite desktop without loosing your datas.
Run

sudo apt install zorin-os-lite-desktop

to install it. During installation you are asked wheather you want to use gdm3 or lightdm. Choose what you want. The gdm3 is the default login manager for gnome desktop, but it also works in xfce, and the other way round with lightdm. Easier for the beginning is when you choose gdm3.

After the installation log out and at login click on your username then a cog wheal appears at the bottom right corner. There select Zorin Lite Desktop.

The setting you make there is kept until you change it back to Zorin Desktop to login into a gnome session (=Zorin Core).

You're welcome!

is that command install a new operating system (Zorin lite) or a new desktop environment (xfce) ??

what is the difference between this command and installing xfce desktop normally ??

It installs the Zorin Lite Desktop Environment that is XFCE.

This command installs the XFCE based Desktop that the ZorinGroup has added their themes, configurations, background, custom appllications and settings to.

Installing just XFCE with

sudo apt install xfce4

Will get you just the barebones default XFCE, which like Plasma or Gnome - needs configuration and tweaking.
