Forgive my English, it's "deepl" who does the translating.
I've installed Zorin Pro on a machine that usually runs Debian.
My configuration is :
Ram : 16 GO
Processor: intel Core i7 - 6700K x8
Graphics card: intel HD Graphics 530 (SKL GT2)
SSD: 2 TO
I find Zorin really beautiful and stable. In fact, I love it! But my only regret is that it's a little slower than Debian, which is much smoother and faster.
So I'm wondering whether I should install the Pro version or a lighter version?
Also, if I install a Lite version, will I lose privileges compared to a Pro version?
There may be some configurations and tweaks you can try to speed things up. We may need to get into detail.
No. I use Zorin OS Lite exclusively just as a personal preference.
Zorin OS Lite and Pro Lite and Zorin OS Core and Pro have different desktop environments. Neither is "more" or "less" of an Operating System than the other.
Zorin OS Pro comes with some perks; but no functionality is withheld or locked behind a paywall. Choosing Zorin OS Pro is done to support development. It is not done in order to unlock functionality. Core and Lite have the same functionality as Pro.
Choosing Pro does have one privilege that comes with it: Professional installation support from the ZorinGroup.
I suppose you could say that choosing Core or Lite loses you that privilege... Though I never really of thought of it that way...
Thank you for your reply. I understand better the difference between the versions. Personally, I've always liked Gnome, so the Pro version suits me and I've been able to customize it a bit.
I'd love to get some ideas for adjustments to try to improve things.
Preload works automatically, so you do not need to do any configuration after install. Just reboot.
If this is a Notebook computer, install TLP
sudo apt install tlp
Check your StartUp applications. Remove any entries that you know what they are, but do not need.
Check your Gnome Extensions. You can use Zorin Settings > Extensions or Gnome Tweak Tool > Extensions. Disable any that you do not need like Magic Lamp effect or other resource using frills.
Check your Internet browser. Some, like Vivaldi or Opera will be resource heavy and bog things down.
Avoid Snap packages. Snap and Flatpak both can decrease performance speed. This does not mean never use them... But most often, they can be avoided.
What about temperatures?
I recommend using Psensor as it is easier than running through the gamut on terminal.
sudo apt install lm-sensors psensor
Launch Psensor from the app menu or from alt+F2
Check HDD, SDD, GPU and CPU temps. You really want to be under 60 degrees Celsius (Though I try to keep mine under 30...)
Temps too high can cause a lot of slowness in performance.
