144Hz not available

I've used Zorin OS on this PC for around 2 years now and had no problem.

Yesterday when I've logged in I realised that my monitor is at 60Hz and not the normally 144Hz (I use a GTX 1060 6GB), so I checked the nvidia Server and driver (proprietary) to check for info, but it would not load. So I've figured that the driver is somewhat borked.

I've reinstalled the driver but nothing worked. So I used the Zorin Updater and updated to Zorin 17.1. nVidia Server now loads propperly and the driver as well - Still no 144Hz or any other refresh rate besides 60Hz is possible, and is also not shown in the settings. As this is a problem posted on occasion here I've tried the following:

  1. xrandr also only shows different resolutions with 60Hz, trying to force the output to 144Hz or detect 144Hz versions did not work.
  2. Change the driver to 550 or 535 - on 535 it is stuck on 77Hz (only with kernel 5.15.x and 6.5.11)
  3. Change the kernel over grub (5.x and 6.5.11)

Thanks for your help in advance!

Welcome to the forum!

So from what I can tell, there seems to be an issue now with your Nvidia drivers in relation to your display settings. This has been an issue lately due to some recent updates. If you run a uname -r , and if you're running kernel 6.8 that would be the case depending on if you're running nvidia version 545:

This would be the first thing that I would check if anything here matches up and is a known issue.

Thank you for the fast reply! I've accidentally opened the thread to early haha as I've pressed enter and not shift+enter, I've already tried this

You could try it with the 6.8 Kernel and the 550 Driver. But Your Nvidia Card is not the newest ... What Driver had you installed before You changed to the others?
