17.1 Pro, radeon and 2,5yo linux-firmware

Installed Zorin-17.1p last weekend and like the desktop integration and gaming functions.

But if it boot or not is a dice game, 1/3 times it cannot load the firmware-blob into my radeon 6700xt. This results to dark screens (both monitors going to sleep) instead of a login screen. Second effect, some wayland functions result to a crash, that damage the firmware-blob in the card.
Here i have to hard reset and try zorin boot again or boot once into windows, that push a new firmware-blob into the card with precision.

A bit research shows, that AMD already know about this and updated the firmware blobs of various cards, many again in april 2024.

Our firmware blobs are, just look at the date.......

ii linux-firmware 20220329.git681281e4-0ubuntu3.31 all

Github is on 20240709

Question: Will this be updated with next release? Or can we have an update via security and stability fixes?

Welcome to the Forum!

You mean with ''next Release'' the next Main Verion (Zorin 18)? If yes, You could take a Look at Ubuntu 24 LTS and control there if the newer Version is installed. If yes, you should get it with Zorin 18, too. But til this will be released this takes some Time. We are now on zorin 17.1 and there should come an .2 and .3 Version.

That already happens. Form Time to Time this gets Updates. But only as an Addition to the existing One. There can come some minor Stuff but not like in a new Version.

As you have the paid version you could raise a support ticket on this issue from here:

Yes it works,

there is nothing version dependant in the archive. So if required we can install the may 2024 version from ubuntu with the packet manager :innocent:

My Radeon can buy me a cookie now
