5.1 sound output from hdmi

Hello has anyone achieved this I had it working on zorin os pro 17.2 through optical but seems imposable just changing the audio output to hdmi dont make any difference if i select stereo or 5.1 i just get front right center and front left no lfe and the back speaker com from the front is this even possible

Open a terminal session, then enter

alsamixer

Have a play around with unmuting any channels showing [MM] by moving to and hit "M". Also increase volume with up-arrow.

You may need to experiment a bit and see what happens.
