I installed VLC a few days ago as recommended by a bunch of board members and have a problem with the program .... I installed it to run video objects only not my photos .... I like my gThumb for pictures ....
Whenever I open my Pictures Folder VLC loads and shows the photo for about 20 sec closes and displays the VLC splash screen ....
I need to find a way for to only open pictures in my gThumb app .... any suggestions will be appreciated .... see photos below .....
For any file: Right click -> properties-> open with -> choose default application to open that type of file.
I tried that and it worked with the first photo .... but then reverted right back to VLC on the next one ....
I think I found the solution .... VLC was trying to open all png files as movies so I did this ....
VLC/ Tools/ Preferances/ Video/ Format/ ..... change png to jpg
Nope that didn't work either .... batting 0% today .... 
Open settings, applicants -> defaults or default applications (depends on DE). Switch to the extensions tab or choose by extension. In the search box type jpg, jpeg, png, gif and any other image extension you use. These should be the only ones showing. Click on the right side and choose the application that should open them by default.
Tried xnview or irfanview.
I don't think so ..... how do I find out what is installed using Snap or Flatpak .... I normally use the terminal or Synaptic ....
If it’s not on Synaptic it’s likely a Snap. Confirm with snap list and flatpak list
Interesting ... doesn't look like it was installed by them either .....

Windows version through Wine (Windows app support)?
To check, open your home folder and of hidden files are not visible then press ctrl+h to show them. There would be a folder .wine - if no folder then you didn’t use wine.
Then it was magic. 
Yup ..... I'm beginning to think the martians sent it to me .... LOL .... just like this jittery screen I get when I'm in the forum .... when I am typing the last item posted that is visible in the top half of the screen has the jitters .... LOL .... if I go to 1/2 size screen it quits .... figure that one out .... no way to take a screenshot cause I tried .... LOL
If you open Zorin Software Store and Installed Tab. Do you see VLC as installed app there?
If you do, scroll down and you will see the source.
Maybe through apt?
Check using:
apt list --installed
I'm beginning to think maybe I deleted the program as I can't seem to find it anywhere and it isn't listed in my All Applications or Installed in the App Store ....

Maybe reinstall help. I installed from webbrowser vlc website.
