FYI I am brand new to linux
I have a fresh system and zorin 17.3 is the only thing installed on a new ssd.
I want to download Li Connect 3 which is software to control the fans and display on my Lian Li case.
When I try to install windows app support from system tools it hangs on the 'preparing' screen indefinitely without loading the install page. When i give up and cancel after 10 minutes or so it appears that wine and bottles have loaded. Yet when I click on the li-connect 3 exe in downloads, I get the popup saying I need to load Windows app support, and when I click on that option again the system only gives me an option to uninstall, which the system would not allow me to do.
So I tried a fresh os install and repeated with exactly the same results, giving me no option to install the windows software.
Am I doing something wrong or is something broken here?
We can troubleshoot Windows App Support with you, but I Do Not Recommend running Li-Connect (.exe) to control Hardware level (Motherboard) devices.
There are many GnuLinux versions you can use.
But WINE (Zorin Windows App Support) is a compatibility layer intended for use of Software Only.
Device enumeration and driver access under Linux is entirely different from Windows. Li-Connect would need to communicate with firmware or motherboard-level interfaces.
The windows app support problem is solved. Seems it loads behind the preparing icon. I was waiting for an install page. That plus the install time taking half an hour due to bad internet threw me off. Thanks for the advice re Li-connect. I specifically want it to run the mini screen on the front of the case to display system data- temps and the like. Any recommendations for that?
The software (Li-connect3) is proprietary and for Windows OS users only, so there is no GnuLinux fork.
However... it may be possible to display what you are thinking. I use OpenRGB and Conky on my computer; Liquidctl might be an option for you.
Piping it to the minidisplay, will take some learning and trial and error - on both our parts.
It is 1am my time though, so I will start reviewing that tomorrow... ![]()
Maybe others will post their suggestions in the meantime.
I mostly use OpenRGB to control any RGB in my system. It supports quite a wide range of stuff now, so I would suspect it could control your stuff too, though I haven't actually checked to make sure this is the case.
For that second screen, you could definitely use something like conky to get whatever information you wanted up, then set it up to display on that specific small display that you're talking about. It would definitely be one of the most lightweight and configurable options.
Thanks guys, I will have a play and revisit with any questions
