I just noticed that I no longer have an icon for the workspaces (activities button) in the Zorin taskbar (Zorin 18.1 Core)—regardless of the theme I have set.
It is set to "visible" in the taskbar settings, and I have disabled and re-enabled it several times, but that didn't help. Disabling the Zorin taskbar and reinstalling it also didn’t help, also not switching to other layouts and back in Zorin Appearance.
Is the activities button a GNOME extension? If so, what is it called?
Unfortunately, I don’t know what I might have changed so that it has disappeared .
What can I do to get it to show up again in the taskbar?
When I set the left super key to open activities, then the activities overview is shown, but the icon in the taskbar is not there.
Ah, now I found it out😃 why that has happened.
I have Zorin menu and Arc menu in my panel, and in the arc menu settings the slider at "show activities button" was turned off. I turned it on, and now the activities button is shown.
The Arc menu settings seem to override the Zorin taskbar settings, perhaps because it is a user installed extension and not a system wide extension as Zorin taskbar.
And recently I was messing around with some settings in the Arc menu; maybe I disabled it there, or maybe it was already disabled by default. In any case, there is shown in Arc menu that Dash-to-panel might conflict with this setting, so the Zorin taskbar is also affected.
Oh thank goodness! I tried the arc menu and had the same problem. Thank you for posting the solution! I couldn't find any option or extension to bring it back. This is truly helpful.
I'm glad it helped you. As soon as you install the Arc Menu GNOME extension, the activities button disappears because in the Arc menu settings the slider "show activities button" is disabled by default and overwrites the Zorin taskbar setting (because user-installed extensions take precedence over system-wide extensions).
