Adobe lightoom or Capture one

Hey humans,

I want to run Lightroom on Zorin OS. I tried WinBoat, and it works… but no GPU support, so it’s painfully slow. :grimacing:

Is there any hope for the future? Any clever solutions?

Also, has anyone actually gotten Lightroom running on Linux at all?

For my workflow, Capture One seems like a solid option. From what I understand, it can run in VMware with GPU passthrough?

Any tips or ideas where to even start with that setup?

I would give Codeweavers a trial run:

Codeweavers are the people who wrote WINE for Mac and Linux.

Looks like Capture One won't even install:

Have you taken a look at darktable?

I use DxO Photolab - on Windows dual boot. I haven't tried using it under Winboat or VM as it needs a lot of your PC resources.

RAW processing is one area where the software really isn't there on Linux - yet. Other than Darktable. I spent 2 months trying it out and still couldn't get results as good as I could get quickly in Lightroom Classic.

(I had used Lightroom until V6 - the last version that came on a CD - and stayed with that version until 2 years ago, when I spent a month with each free and paid RAW editor to test them all out. I eventually settled on PhotoLab).

However, one project worth keeping an eye on is RapidRaw. Its a single developer behind it, a young guy. He has made enormous improvements already in just a few months since the first version. I tried it again last week and was pleasantly surprised at what I could get out of it, and quickly. I don't think its there yet, but he is making rapid improvements.

Unfortunately, since I have to use Lightroom and Capture One for work, alternatives like Darktable just aren’t at the level I need — especially when dealing with large 60+ MP files.

I’ll have to take a look at this RapidRAW software.

I’m still hoping that Adobe will eventually get their act together and start investing in proper native Linux support.
From what I’ve heard (though info is a bit unclear), Capture One might be planning native support at some point.

So for now, my M1 machine stays in work use.

Aye, I have considered a 2nd hand Apple just for Photo RAW. I remain hoping that one of the bigger players will come to Linux. Best wishes.

Seeing the word RAW reminded me of another package, don't know how good (or bad) it is, RAW Therapee.

As I understand it, Adobe has never supported Linux, and doesn't intend to, cause there is no money in it for them. I have Adobe Literoom on my phone, and it works great.

Gimp is the most professional photo solution I know of, on Linux. Having said that, it pails in comparison to actual professional grade Adobe Photoshop solutions, as pro's have told us.

Other then trying free photo editing solutions on Linux, the only option I think you have, is Adobe Literoom on your mobile device. Perhaps a tablet would be more friendly, due to its larger screen size.

I tried it out for a month, to give it the same test I gave all the other RAW editors. For my needs, I didn't like it. I found it tended very easily towards over-saturation. You can do plenty with it though. There's also a fork of it (in the software repository on Zorin) which aims to improve the workflow and de-clutter the interface. It is an improvement IMO, as a professional user I need something more.

Look up ART in the repository, or
