ah ok, sorry i missed that. thank you. So that seems to have worked, however, still can't launch application (I am just clicking on the .exe file in my downloads folder)
Do you have Wine listed in the Menu? If so there should be sub-menus of wine including link to wine programs. If not, open home folder, view hidden files with Ctrl+ H and look for .wine. Open that folder and browse C:\ drive and go to Programs X86 to see if Adobe launcher there. You have to launch within wine, not the exe in home folder. You need to have copied the entire suite into a folder in wine and install fom there.
I have winetricks and configure wine. Wine on its own I cannot see though.
And I cannot see the Adobe launcher in Programs x86
Does anything show up in Programs, or separate Adobe folder? In term s of wine folders one of the screenshots has remove wine software which means wine is definitely installed. Again I would recommend that you install all the Adobe files needed to install it within the fake C:\ drive, mark all files as executable under properties of each folder/file associated with the Suite and run the .exe within Wine, not from Zorin folders. This is what I had to do to get games working. Also run wine-config and create a virtual desktop, the default resolution is set to 800 x 600. I would keep it Windowed rather than full screen (virtual desktop) as sometimes it becomes difficult to get back to the hos system if resolution matches your desktop from experience. Finally, make sure you are logged into a session that is Zorin on xorg not Wayland.
I'm sorry, I'm a real beginner here and not techy. What would I be looking for in Programs or separate adobe folder?
and where would the "fake" C:\ drive be? ...and how would I "mark all files as executable there?
Sorry to be so slow on this.
Bear with me. I will go on my recent Zorin drive later after dinner and try to create a video or screenshots for you.
OK, currently downloading the software from internet archive software section, so please bear with.
OK, ironically i managed to install the Master Collection Disc but not the CS6 Disc 1 or CS6 Disc 2 - both baulked reporting missing files.
Before you do anything in wine you need to run:
winecfg
This will run a script and produce a configuration interface which defaults to Windows 10 - you can of course choose earlier versions of Windows and the current version of Wine (9.0) also allows Windows 11 setting. Once you have deided on what version of Windows you want Wine to run as, you can then choose a fake desktop, the default is 800x640.
Now after you have run the winecfg command, press Ctrl+ H once you have opened your home folder and you should see a folder called '.wine'. Open this folder and you will see 'drive_c' folder. Open this then drag your Adobe .iso's into this folder. I had to extract the contents of the .iso's into a newly created folder of the same name as the .iso but without the .iso at the end. I then looked for a Set-up.exe - right-clicked that, then permissions, then ticked the box next to make executable. I then launched it with Windows Application Installer - only the Master Collection Files installed - the main program baulked. So I guess it won't run in Wine. Your only solution would be to run Windows as a VM using Virt-Manager within Zorin.
thanks so much. greatly appreciated
ok, how do I run winecfg?
Sorry I'm not very techy on Windows and really a beginner on linux. Can we post screen record videos on here! would be great to have them as tutorials!
In the terminal.
when the text look like this in a grey box, it means it's a command
so I just type in winecfg in the terminal?
Note I am in Plasma, so Terminal in Plasma is called Konsole.
After you press the enter key you will get this:
So depending on what version of Windows the software needs to run on, you choose that and make it default.
If you know what .dll's (Dynamic Link Libraries) the software needs you can add them:
In respect of graphics, you can emulate a Windows desktop - you need to check mark this and choose the resolution you want to work with:
I don't tend to mess with desktop integration:
The drives tab shows you how wine handles the 'fake' c drive, plus any USB drives that are attached to the computer:
I leave audio settings alone - it has identified by SoundBlaster Audigy card correctly:
About just tells you the version of wine and their official website:
To view 'drive_c' you need to use the key combinations of Ctrl+ H whilst you have your home folder open to see the hidden files. After you have run winecfg command for the first time, this creates a .wine folder:
Opening the folder reveals:
Opening drive_c reveals:
Obviously you won't have the folders I have placed in there (Adobe stuff and Pro Rally 2001 - both fails. The Pro Rally Game 2001 that I have I copied all the folders into a new folder the same name as what is shown in Computer DVD/CD drive.
The only thing that works in ProRally is the Menu to start the game and attempting to launch brings up the error of a missing indeo codec!
You can copy files from your Downloads folder into drive_c no problem.
I was even able to copy the Fonts in the Adobe extracted folders into the fonts folder in drive_c.
I used Ark to extract all the folders from the downloaded Adobe .iso's from internet archive (https://archive.org)
Hope this gives you an insight as to how wine works.
wow, thats so helpful. thank you. I've been really up to my neck lately but plan to sit down this weekend and give this a go. thats a really helpful guide though. hopefully many others will also find it useful!
