Interim status! After 8 months
A few months have now passed and I am still very happy with my Zorin OS Pro installation on my main computer. I love my Zorin operating system.
I don't miss Windows one bit (Windows has been uninstalled for 8 months) - I have settled in well, got used to many things and internalized new processes without any problems. Incidentally, I didn't make the much-discussed switch to Brave; I continue to use Firefox as my browser with conviction.
I regularly try out different Linux distributions on my test laptop, which are presented in current distro guides. Nevertheless, the operation and overall package of Zorin OS simply feels the most coherent to me.
That's why Zorin OS remains my daily operating system on my private main device - and that's not likely to change any time soon.
I am glad to hear that you are having a wonderful time on Zorin OS, especially with up to 8 months of success, I think that is so stellar. Thanks for your stellar posts on the board as well, they have been a fun read.
Many people tell me I should use Linux Mint or Ubuntu directly.
I don't understand why Linux Mint or Ubuntu should be better. I have tested Linux Mint and Ubuntu, I just like Zorin better.
It is certainly a matter of taste.
I have used Pop! OS for over 3 years, i wont tell you a "ubuntu" based distro would be any better. I would say try Endeavour OS, i installed it on 3 notebooks and all 3 notebooks runs faster compared to a ubuntu based distro. Today i installed a 4th machine from my brother in law, his windows 11 ran like s**t (1 memory module died so he had to rely on 4GB) and he asked to look at it. He did not add a wifi password so i tried to run it. It ran meh, but after entering the password for wifi the computer was not usable at all (95% of memory in use). All the background apps where activated, part could not even be turned off (McAffee for sample, could not disable it's services). He asked me to put up linux to try it out.
So i installed endeavour os on it....god what a difference, the speed. He could not believe it was the same machine. He wants to use it for internet and a bit of office and old games. Steam runs great on it, his games too. He is quite happy about it.
For me, no more ubuntu based distro's ever again. Arch all the way!. Yes i am still learning, i don't consider myself as novice or pro. For beginners it is a user friendly distro. Once you have tested it and see how speedy it is, you wont even look back at the distro you used before.
I said in the past i would not turn away from Pop! OS, look at where i am now.
I told you that you would leave POP OS, just as I had, and you proved me right sir. I am happy that you are enjoying Endeavour OS, seems like a really nice OS. I am also surprised to hear that you've been able to use an ARCH based distro, nice.
There is nothing wrong with Pop! OS, i still love it. It will be better with cosmic. But the speeds are insane, all my machines got a big boost. I don't know if it is duo the latest kernels but so far i really enjoy it. Even pacman is easy to use, but again ... i am still a rookie and i need to learn alot.
So far i did not encounter issues. And yeah you where right about leaving Pop!
