Have a hp pavilion 15 AMD A8 laptop. Just installed zorin 18 core ... I keep getting an issue where the screen will alternate between the desktop and a black screen. In addition it occasionally freezes.
Any idea what's wrong and how to fix please?

When you login, the default compositor is Wayland. This is a possible issue, but not a definite one. When you get to the login screen and select your username a cog appears bottom right. Click on it and change it to 'Zorin Desktop on xorg'.
Yeah I tried that ... It happens a lot less but still occasionally happens.
Still a lot to learn 
Are secure boot and fast boot in your BIOS disabled and also fast startup in Windows if you have Dualboot with Windows?
Which graphics do you have and how much RAM?
Try to disable hardware acceleration in your browser to see if it is better then.

Single boot, AMD A8 6410, 4gb ram. I disabled secure boot in bios, couldn't locate fast boot will look again.
Disabled hardware acceleration first as it was recommended on old laptops.
