Hi, I've been successfully running Zorin 18 Beta since it was first released, and apart from a few teething problems it's been really reliable, I've just updated to the new release and am having a few issues that I've not encountered before.
One of the most annoying things is that for no reason the system will start to run very slowly, sometimes a reboot will help, but it's far from guaranteed.
It's not a huge deal, and I'm sure things will improve with time. Just interested to know if I'm alone in this issue.
Can you tell us details of your hardware, particularly processor, RAM, graphics card, laptop or desktop.
Also are you dual-booting alongside windows or just have ZorinOS 18 Core?
When it starts to run slow, what were you doing?
Beneath @zabadabadoo's Questions: Does Your System run in Wayland or X11/Xorg? You can check this in Settings>System>Info>Systemdetails.
Sorry for the delay, been on my hols!
The machine is an almost new mini pc with the following specs: Intel Core i9-12900H processor
64GB of ddr4 ram (dual core), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, the latter employing Intel's dubious 6E AX210 160 MHz wifi-bluetooth combination. Since my original post there has been a small improvement, but still has a tendency to slow down as the day goes on. I'd appreciate any assistance you may be able to offer.
Cheers.
"The Intel AX210 Wi-Fi 6E adapter, which supports 160 MHz channel widths and operates on the 6 GHz band, has been reported to cause performance issues on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, including lag and poor wireless performance, despite functioning correctly under Windows and other Linux distributions like Fedora 42 Workstation. Users have observed that while the AX210 can achieve speeds exceeding 100 Mb/s under Windows, performance under Ubuntu 24.04 LTS drops significantly, with some reporting speeds below 2 Mb/s.
The issue appears to be related to Ubuntu's handling of the 6 GHz band and 160 MHz channel widths. Although the AX210 is capable of connecting at 6 GHz with 160 MHz channel widths—achieving speeds around 2100 Mbit/s in Fedora 42 Workstation—Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS and 25.04 fail to consistently recognize or maintain such connections, even when the hardware and firmware are up to date.
The problem persists across different kernel versions, including 6.11.x and 6.14.3, suggesting it is not solely a kernel issue.
One user confirmed that the AX210 works reliably on Fedora 42 Workstation, which uses the 6.14.x kernel, indicating that the issue may stem from Ubuntu-specific configuration or software stack differences rather than the hardware itself.
The adapter's ability to briefly connect to the 6 GHz band after a reboot, only to disconnect and no longer detect the band, further points to a software or driver-level instability in Ubuntu.
While the AX210 is fully capable of supporting 160 MHz channels and 6 GHz operation, the current state of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS appears to have unresolved compatibility issues that result in lag and degraded performance. Users experiencing these problems may consider switching to a Linux distribution like Fedora 42 Workstation for more reliable 6 GHz connectivity.

[Footnote, Zorin 18 is a fork of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS]
I tried everything suggested and unfortunately got nowhere, got myself a TPLink dongle 5.4 and loaded the latest drivers and it works perfectly. Hasn't missed a beat, and I use it a lot!
