You may need to use the recovery prompt to run the command. Instead of choosing a different kernel under Advanced Options, choose a kernel with the (Recovery) tag. In the recovery menu, arrowk key down to Root - Drop to Prompt
(Recovery)
Then run
sudo apt remove --purge fprintd libpam-fprintd
Then proceed to:
