ASUS V500 boots into Grub

I have tried installing the latest version of Zorin OS, but failing. BalenaEtcher has made 2 USB sticks unreadable, so I used Rufus, which sort of worked, but it ends up booting into Grub command prompt. I cannot see a setting in UEFI for secure boot, but I have disabled Fast Boot. I have an ASUS V500 desktop.

Any help is muchly appreciated.

Thanks

Hello and welcome,
try another tool than BalenaEtcher, like Rufus

I have used Rufus, which sort of works, but it boots into Grub.

In your BIOS it is Lecagy or UEFI activated ?

It is UEFI BIOS. There is not an option for Legacy.

In Rufus you select what for partition scheme ?

I selected GPT.

Do this :

  • Use Rufus again, but pay careful attention to these settings:
    • Under "Partition scheme," select "GPT" (not MBR)
    • Under "Target system," select "UEFI (non-CSM)"
    • Leave "File system" as FAT32
    • Click "START" and wait for it to complete fully

I will do that, those are the settings I used last time, but will give another go. Thanks

and you really need to disable secure boot, take a look at this to find it

I have managed to find Secure Boot, it was located under Security tab. I have disabled and used the settings you said in Rufus, but it still boots into Grub.

Perhaps it helps to run boot repair from the Zorin live session. Boot with the Zorin USB stick, choose "try Zorin" and in the start menu search for boot repair and launch it.

If you have a Dualboot with Windows, please disable fast startup at power options of Windows.

I'm not able to boot to the Zorin menu, all I get is a Grub command prompt.

Boot from the USB stick (set USB at first boot position).

Which I have done and still boots to Grub.

My Lenovo laptop does this if I use F12 to choose which device to boot.

Instead I have to use F2 to go into the UEFI boot section and move the USB to the top of the list and save and exit then it works.

It is a dual boot ? because boot option 1 show windows boot manager...

I took the photo before I'd changed boot order. I have figured it out now. I was choosing the wrong option. I was choosing Zorin OS, but I changed it to UEFI Multi Card Reader, just out of curiosity and it booted to the Zorin menu. I have managed to successfully install Zorin now.

Thanks for all your help with this!
