“Authentication required” as a super user?

I'm pretty new to Zorin (recent convert from windows) and this notification pops up every once and awhile. I don't recognize it so I'm not sure if it's malicious or not. Can anyone shed some light on this?

It is normal. When you want to execute programs or commands which need administrator rights, e.g. install a software, you get this prompt.

That's the problem. This pops up when I'm not trying to run anything.

Welcome to the Forum!

There is a File Path shown. Take a Look at it and post what is in the Path. Because it refers to .cache, You have to make show hidden Files in Nautilus (the File Manager). Open the File Manager and press ctrl+h to make the hidden Files visible.

Then, You should see the .cache Folder.

This is not malicious. But even though you are not actively running something; you have added a script in your home directory that is - you can see this in the screenshot where it references BASH.

As @Ponce-De-Leon points out, you can follow the path it is showing in the prompt to see what that script is - you can relay it here for further checking.
