Avidemux does not work properly on Wayland.
Avidemux does not support Wayland. Reportedly, one user found a workaround by setting the flag --platform 'xcb' at the launcher.
You can file a feature request on their project site.

If they've bundled the necessary dependencies they need to run on Wayland (as this is a common source of frustration from a quick glance in their community), this may be the solution they've chosen to address this issue going forward.
You could try and install the same dependencies on your system... but I'd definitely refer you to their developers to find out what those are exactly.
