Since I have zorin, I have never understood this option. For it to make sense, it would have to be automatically turned on as soon as Zorin has any doubt that it is a pay-as-you-go connection. And in theory it is.
By manually turning it off, however, Zorin should re-enable automatic updates and turn off notifications of possible additional charges.
IT DOES NOT and never has in any of my 3 computers: Desktop, NUC, Notebook.
Basically whether it is checked or unchecked, Zorin blocks automatic updates and warns that there may be costs.
Inolter if I use the cell phone as USB or WIFI thetering not using the Mobile connection, but the WIFI connection (using the cell phone as a repeater of WIFI), Zorin says that I am using a Mobile connection and blocks updates and activates notifications of possible costs, again whether checked or unchecked Consumer Connection.
I didn't understand how no one noticed this.
Do you have an email from the developers? I don't have pro support and don't know how to notify them.
Also I have the almost unlimited mobile connection (200 GB that I will never use) included in the price and if I exceed it I simply have to renew the offer first (4,99 € per month, you'll understand what an expense.... ;-D ).
As you have posted correctly in Feedback section, that is a good place where the devs would see it.
If you are able to post a screenshot of the specific ZorinOS Setting screen, that may also help illustrate the issue.
I might be miss-understanding here, but it sounds like you've enabled a metered throttle connection, in your network options.
Click on logo bottom of screen, then click on settings. From there, click on the Network category left side list. You will see a
wheel to the right of the connection, next to a toggle.
Once you've clicked on the wheel, look at the bottom dialog, and you will see this "Metered Connection". If that box has a checkmark in it, please remove the checkmark, and then restart your computer.
Hopefully, thats all this is, and produces an easy fix for you.
This is unchecked in my VM of Zorin and no issues:
Updates are not normally automatic anyway. You normally receive a notification that updates are available. You then have to view the updates and then apply the updates to take effect.
Can I ask if you have your Software Sources set to Main Server instead of your country locale server for Zorin? If you haven't changed it to Main Server I advise you do it now.
Thank you all!
I was doing the same as StarTreker but not rebooting. It doesn't say anywhere to reboot.
Now it seems to be ok.
My server is in Italy.
Is the main server or the local server better? what are the pros and cons of the two? what do you recommend to choose?
Main Server is consdered better and is generally recommended by forum members.
All regional servers obtain their information from the Main server. They are supposed to be in clear communication and regional servers up to date.
Yet, time and time again, we see examples of regional servers lagging behind the Main, or not containing all the needed packages. I really would prefer to avoid speculation as to why...
But in the end, switching to Main server often resolves package conflicts.
