Black screen with continuously scrolling white text after installing Zorin on HP ZBook

Thank you for your reply. What is PCIe? I'm afraid I don't understand.

It is for connecting Stuff like Graphics Cards.

If you are interested, find more info on PCIe bus here (with pictures): https://www.allaboutcircuits.com/news/twenty-years-of-pci-express-past-present-and-future-bus/

Thank you both. Most interesting. I have got someone coming round tomorrow to have a look at my laptop and see if he can get everything up and running. I feel quite out of my depth with this and feel the need for some face-to-face hands-on help! I'll let you know how things go. Meantime, thank you so much for all the help and advice in what seems to be a pretty intractable problem! I do appreciate it. Fortunately Zorin seems to be running pretty well on the other laptop and I'm getting accustomed to how everything works. This forum is a great asset.

A local computer man came round yesterday and spent six hours working on my HP ZBook! It was a marathon session but he has got everything going just fine, including installing DaVinci Resolve and sorting out any driver problems. The problem with the computer not restarting properly was due to some sort of conflict with the laptop's card reader, and once he had blacklisted this, the computer booted fine with no further problems. I don't use a card reader anyway so it's no loss.

I could never in a million years have sorted out these problems myself. He spent a great deal of time, using AI on the Internet to search for answers, and this often came up with half a dozen suggestions. My computer was being so stubborn that it was often the last item on the list which worked! Several times he said, "I am not prepared to leave until I get this sorted. I can't in all conscience leave you with a non-working computer!" What a star.

I had come to the end of the road with this and was not capable of sorting it, even with the great help and advice from this forum. It needed an in-person, hands-on approach, with me being there to ask and answer questions as required. Sometimes one just has to throw in the towel and admit one's limitations, and let the professionals take over! My limitations in this case are great, I admit!

Anyway, thank you for the input, and I am very happy to report success at last.
