Brave no longer opens

This it the second time Brave has stopped working. The first time I used a snapshot from Time-Shift, in order to correct this. So, I recently was trying to add samba shares for this desktop, and my laptop that runs Mint. Shares didn't work, but I noticed when I reboot this desktop a new user was added. I was only trying to add my laptop user for samba shares Not as a new user Acc. to login to Zorin "from this desktop pc".

So here I am on Firefox while I try and fix the Brave issue. Currently I uninstalled Brave, and going to reinstall. I am guessing that somehow I broke brave while trying to add each user to the other machine for samba sharing. But that doesn't explain why Brave stopped working the first time. "sigh"

I should add, that I also changed the computer name of this machine, due the fact that I had Capitol letters in the old computer name. And this caused an issue while setting up samba shares.

I will give an update after I reinstall Brave. "slow connection"

Take a look at this thread. There you can find a solution:

Upon uninstalling/reinstalling, the software manager is stuck at Installing-100%.

It has been like this for 10 minutes.

You can try to open system monitor and end gnome-software process.

Yes I changed the hostname. So I will look in to what you mentioned.

I have uninstalled Brave, but I believe it saves user setting/app data. Furthermore, Software Manager is stuck at 100% during reinstall.

Yes, maybe a reinstallation doesn't help because the .config files may be kept.

Open your file manager and press ctrl+h to show the hidden files, then go to .config folder which is in your home folder. Go to

~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser

and remove the files

SingletonLock
SingletonCookie
SingletonSocket

Ok, so Software Manager finally finished and I am able to open Brave upon reinstalling. None of my settings or bookmarks were saved. No big deal because I didn't have a lot of bookmarks/user data/settings to apply.

I can reference your replies here in this thread in the future if needed, so thank you very much for your help.

The main thing is that Brave is working again!

Hindsight I should have followed your instructions before uninstalling and reinstalling.

Yes Sir, Thank you

Can you choose another profile in brave-browser (which already exists) to see if your old profile is still there? I'm wondering if your profile is really deleted.

Do you have installed the Zorin apt package of Brave browser now or the flatpak or snap version? You can check that in software center at tab installed.
If it is the flatpak version, uninstall it and install the apt package instead and test if your profile is shown there.

I used flathub. I have never used an APT package yet. At this point, I just want to get samba shares working, and put this Brave issue behind me.

Having said that, can I check profiles without reinstalling again using APT package?

Brave was also broken on the laptop, from changing host name. I deleted (SingletonSocket SingletonLock SingletonCookie) as mentioned above, and Brave now works on the laptop, without reinstalling!

So you have used a flatpak version of brave-browser before and now?
I'm not at the computer at the moment.
Can you select different profiles in your browser?

You can take a look there. I'm not sure if it is the correct path, but it shows the way where flatpaks store the user's profiles and where you find the singletonlock file for flatpak.

~/.var/app/com.brave.Browser/config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/

Edit: Just see your last post and that it works now. So everything fine!

Yes I installed flatpak version both times. In the browser I do not see any other profiles, only an option to create a new profile.

~/.var/app/com.brave.Browser/config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/
Here I see nothing about profiles, and since the previous profile did not have a lot of data, I am ok with losing it.

Thanks again for your help

Some good info there, thanks a lot for sharing. Looks like I should consider reinstalling, and avoid the flatpak this time.

Thank you

That's what Brave team says:
You can install with one line command:
curl -fsS https://dl.brave.com/install.sh | sh

Hope this time it would work.

Thank you for the cmd. Just got done fighting with a samba sharing issue, and eventually won. But I'm getting tired. I will work on this later.

Thanks again
