installing Brother MFCL2820DW does seem to install via the
sudo dpkg -i " filename".deb sudo command, to install drivers. I can see the printer in the settings menu as inthere. But will NOT print at all. I can see the print job is in the queue and it says "PROCESSING" yet it does nothing. I am very new to linux, less than 6 weeks into it and am loving it 110%.
Please be very specific of where to go and what sudo commands to use to install this NEW printer into linux. And I do believe it is "SET UP" already from out of the box setup. Maybe wrong either? But please give sudo command to check that as well. CUPS is confusing if that is the way I have to go to print. Would rather use the actual driver to print, but CUPS would work if needed too. running Zorin OS 17.2.
Any help I would be most thankful for, TY in advance for your help!
First off don't use Menu | Settings | Printers.
Instead, open a Terminal (Menu | Utilities | Terminal) and enter:
sudo system-config-printer
The same interface opens as from Settings but works better launching from terminal. Click on Add Printer. A new window should open. You now need to choose the option that matches how your printer is connected (Network, USB). Then choose Next. This should open a Window listing different manufacturers of Printers. Obviously choose Brother, then click on Next. This should open a window with all available models. If the driver has been installed it should be listed. Note, sometimes the Linux printer driver may be listed as a mfcl2800 series, not sure. I have a Canon TS8151 but Canon's Linux driver sees it as TS8000 Series Printer.
