I recently installed Zorin OS Pro on my Dell Latitude 7320 Detachable, but the built-in camera is not being recognized by the system. This is significantly impacting my daily work, as I rely on the camera for video conferencing and other business tasks.
Steps I’ve Already Taken:
Searched for solutions in the Ubuntu community forums (e.g., checking lsusb, dmesg, or v4l2-ctl --list-devices).
Ensured all system updates are applied (sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade).
Checked for proprietary drivers or firmware
System Details:
Zorin OS Version: Zorin OS Pro [Version 17.3]
Kernel Version: 6.8.0-65-generic
Error Logs (if any):
Output of `dmesg | grep -i camera'
Moosa@M-Lap:~$ sudo dmesg | grep -i camera
moosa@M-Lap:~$
Output of v4l2-ctl --list-devices
Cannot open device /dev/video0, exiting.
Could you please assist in diagnosing why the camera isn’t detected?
Since I’m using Zorin OS Pro, I’d appreciate any specialized support or configurations that might apply.
Thank you for your time—I’d greatly appreciate any guidance to resolve this.
I'm not sure if installing the newest kernel could help you. I'd recommend to try this first. You can install a newer kernel with cappelican mainline tool.
If your camera is similar to Dell XPS 9320 this solution could help.
Perhaps someone is more experienced to give you good advice. Zorin 17.3 doesn't use the kernel of ubuntu 22.04 so I don't know if it will work and I'm not sure if it is possible to follow the instructions for ubuntu 24.04 and add the dell ppa for ubuntu noble.
