Can My Laptop WiFi Card be Turned Off

Do i go back and shut down the card first also just so you know I have had the dongle plugged in since yesterday if that makes any difference .... even when doing the terminal commands before ....

Should I just try ..... sudo modprobe -r rtl88x2bu and leave them both running ..... ????

Yes lets try that next.

It appears that the very last .... network .... in the first example is the WiFi dongle while the other two are on the laptop .....

If I remember it correctly the [Jefferson Peak] wireless is from my laptops WiFi card or at least that is what the Asus driver for the WiFi was named .....

The last driver could be Zorin's generic driver .....

Oh No Mr. Bill ..... guess what I just found ..... I swear I never saw the PCI WiFi and the USB WiFi settings before in System Settings - Network ..... could it be maybe an update in Cinnamon DE ???? ..... you still run Cinnamon don't you ??? .... see if it have those to in the top left hand corner .....

You are right I had to give it my Linksys password to enable ..... my little WiFi dongle is happily blinking away .....

I know this doesn't shut the laptop WiFi card off just doesn't allow it to access the internet .... should I shut the card down or leave it alone .... will it cause any trouble even though it can't access the net ....

Interesting I just had my Bluetooth keyboard shut off .... but that was just once all day .... maybe a glitch .... will wait until it happens again .....

If it's working, let's not break it.

I picked the one that had you exclaim "eureka".

Try disabling r8169, since that is the driver in use for that card (last line).

Sorry, didn't read too the end to see this solved.

Well after my latest major disaster 2 days ago where I had to format my Zorin drive again and reinstall the entire drive using Rescuezilla .... I now have the same problem .... my WiFi dongle will not work ..... the great new feature I had in the previous solution in my Network Settings is no long visible ..... see photo below ..... I followed the steps to install the dongle using the info supplied by Aravisian as
before and just like before the WiFi dongle will not work ....

I have no idea where that USB connection came from in my Systems Settings it just appeared ..... should I just go ahead and delete the driver as suggested by 337harvey ???? .... what happens if it doesn't work and I have no internet after deleting it ???? ....

Must be human error as I jiggled my USB hub and it is working again .... after I reinstalled the WiFi Dongle .... I'll try the jiggling fix next time before I ask for help ....

Jiggling marked as solution.
