Can´t install Mega Desktop App on Zorin 17.2

hi! Iḿ switching from Windows to Zorin. So far all is fine for what I want to do on this system, but there is one important tool that I can´t get to work:

Mega Desktop App, that I use for synchronizing my work.

So, I did all the recommended things like sudo apt update & upgrade, everythingś up to date.
The recomended Mega application version for Zorin 17.2 is Ubuntu 24.04, so that's what I tried. But I get the following error:

To install:

wget https://mega.nz/linux/repo/xUbuntu_24.04/amd64/megasync-xUbuntu_24.04_amd64.deb && sudo apt install "$PWD/megasync-xUbuntu_24.04_amd64.deb"

The Error:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
megasync: Vereisten: libc6 (>= 2.38) but 2.35-0ubuntu3.8 is to be installed
Vereisten: libqt5core5t64 (>= 5.15.1) but it is not installable
Vereisten: libqt5gui5t64 (>= 5.14.1) but it is not installable or
libqt5gui5-gles (>= 5.14.1) but it is not going to be installed
Vereisten: libqt5network5t64 (>= 5.15.1) but it is not installable
Vereisten: libqt5widgets5t64 (>= 5.11.0~rc1) but it is not installable
Vereisten: libstdc++6 (>= 13.1) but 12.3.0-1ubuntu1~22.04 is to be installed

If I'm correct, Mega requires a newer version of those files?
With that logic I tried older versions of Mega Desktop App, and this version installs without a problem.
Just a warning that I should "update my OS". Which is funny, it's brand new

So, is there a way I can install the proper version of the Mega Desktop App?
I'm a bit hesitant to use this old version.

Hi, welcome to the Zorin OS community!

This is unfortunately a common source of confusion, as Zorin OS 17 is based on Ubuntu 22.04. This explains the dependency errors due to mismatch in the available version of the listed dependencies.
If you don't mind sharing, where did you read this recommendation? It might help reaching out to the source to correct this, in order to reduce this sort of issue.

The proper version is the one that matches your operating system. In this case, the one for Ubuntu 22.04. This version of Ubuntu still receives support and will continue to do so until 2027, so despite it being older doesn't mean it's not going to work.

Hi Zenzen, thanks for the reply.

My assumption comes from the Zorin Blog:

I suspected that was the case... this has been discussed many times, as it's very prone to confusion. I only asked because sometimes other websites, like tech blogs and such, would also make that same mistake.

The base of Zorin OS 17 is Ubuntu 22.04. However, the Linux kernel has been updated to match that of Ubutun 24.04.

Hopefully in the future we could rephrase that to avoid similar issues.

The Zorin uses the same kernel as ubuntu 24.04 but the system is still based on ubuntu 22.04. It might be confusing.
