Can UbuntuTV even be installed?

Hi there! Kinda struggling with this one. I've followed several guides but I keep coming up short.
Is it at all possible to get UbuntuTV to work on ZorinOS, or am I dreaming?
I will mention that I am well aware that the development has ceased on the project some time ago, but the reason I am so interested in it is because there is just no other intuitive IPTV app like it on Linux anywhere. Currently I use Yuki-IPTV, and Smarters Pro, but Smarters has no epg, and while I have gotten used to Yuki and how to navigate it, it's not exactly sit-back-and-use-the-remote friendly. UbuntuTV looks like exactly what I would be looking for but despite those on the interwebs saying it's easy, none of them have step-by-step guides. Or at least, none that have worked for me.
I've tried this:

this:

and a couple others. None have worked.

I also tried to install Megacubo but although that one installs, it opens to a blank shell and sits there doing nothing indefinitely. If anyone knows how to fix that (I see others with the issue, but no fixes that i've been able to see), I could probably get by just using that instead.

I sure would appreciate any assistance.

Currently on Zorin 17.3, using 6.14 Kernel.

Have you tried freetuxuxTV? I think there is another called Pandora.

Unfortunately I can't say that I know how to fix it, perhaps a virtual machine with an older version of Ubuntu might be a better alternative.

You could try installing Hypnotix, that's the IPTV application that Linux Mint uses. I believe there's a PPA available for it somewhere.

Thank you both. I didn't care for Freetux. I have never heard of Pandora as an iptv client, so I'll look into that one.
If there is a ppa for Hypnotix I do want to try that as well since I seem to recall it having a decent UI.

You know what would be the cat's a$$ though? If I could find a simple way to get and android emu to install and work! That way I'd just use TVMate. That is the most incredible and well put together IPTV app I've ever used. Like, someone spent serious money developing this. Alas, I've tried getting an Android iso to work in Boxes, but I can't even figure out how to install it once that procedure starts lol :man_shrugging:

Anyway, yeah. Thanks again. I'll look into each of those. If I can't figure them out, I'll be back

I couldn't remember the name. applecheeks37 did!

I believe the PPA for mint's tools would be this:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kelebek333/mint-tools

Then you would need to run a

sudo apt update
sudo apt install hypnotix

That would also allow you to install Mint's other tools, however I haven't checked the ppa in a while, so ymmv.

Just been playing around in Zorin 17 without Software present. On initial search I was drawn to a github page which indicated a snap package. I found a .deb package of hypnotix but was missing a dependency gir1.2-xapp-1.0 but the version was not high enough. Eventually found this:

Attempted to install the latest one but it came up with dependency error.
Went for version 2.0 all .deb file from the site above and have it working:

I used terminal command:

sudo apt install gdebi

then

gdebi-gtk

This brings up the interface, then File | Open - and point to the downloaded .deb file to install - you will be asked for your password to install the _all.deb package.
