Cannot delete files on NTFS drive

I finally decided to replace my main machine O/S with Zorin 18. I have installed it on a separate drive to the main windows install and wanted to share my data drive with both Zorin and Windows 11. Zorin will not let me delete any files on the data drive. I have checked permissions and the drive is set to read/write. I am not prepared at this stage to reformat the drive as I want to test out Zorin thoroughy before possibly switching over. In addition I have been trying to find a free A/V software to provide additional protection. I feel that it will soon become necessary to have A/V on Linux distros as they will be targeted more and more by bad actors as they become more popular.

There are a number of threads on the forum discussing Antivirus software.
I mention ClamAV, ClamTK (but new user interface ClamUI), also Rkhunter and Chkrootkit in the post below.
Maybe your AV question would be best put aside in a separate thread and use this thread to concentrate on your NTFS file deletion question.

Built-in antivirus

Although considered less susceptible and attractive to malware, Linux is not immune to it. I think ClamAV/ClamTK needs improvement, also Rkhunter and Chkrootkit are not nice tools for newbies.

Are both Drives internally or is one an external Drive?

Thanks for replies. Both drives are internal. I can use a small external drive as a temporary storage but I was hoping to leave the main data drive as a NTFS drive to allow me to use either Windows/Linux for flexibility.

Was that Drive setup under Windows? If yes, is it maybe Bitlocker encrypted?

I had the same problem. The Linux system made "root" the owner for the data drive and nothing I was able to try or suggested on this forum would change the ownership or give "me" as opposed to "root" the access rights I needed to do anything with it. I had to give up on the idea of a shared data drive between Zorin and Windows and change the format to Ext4 which Windows cannot access. I used my cloud backup manager to mirror a NTFS drive and an Ext4 drive so I have separate drives for each OS but the files are identical no matter which OS I use to create delete or modify.

Thanks for the replies. Bitlocker is not the issue. I am looking at formatting the drive in exfat to make the drive accessible to both.O/S
