I cannot enter x11 session, after entering password, the screen just went black, after few seconds it back to login screen. Wayland is working tho. Now, I'm in wayland.
It happen, suddenly. Yesterday I use the x11 just fine.
You can take a look at this thread:
When you try to add a new user account and login with this one does x11 work then?
You could also check if third party gnome extensions cause the problem and disable them for testing.
Do you use the default gdm or lightdm?
Have you installed anything new, or ran any updates?
Zorin OS Core uses "gdm".
When You look in the Link that @Forpli has posted, go there to the last Comment. There I wrote a Description to force using X11.
Could You tell use Your Hardware Specs?
@earl If you installed a kernel update, try booting a previous kernel generic version from grub menu item "Additional Options for Zorin".
If with X11 you mean Xorg (I wasn't sure either, I asked Gemini, they're not the same thing ), after choosing your username on the login screen you can click on the gear button in the bottom right corner and choose. Another way is disconnecting the user in use and change selection again, just in case the first login doesn't work.
I can't find any solution in that thread?
Yes, I can log into x11 with new user (regular not admin, haven't tried new admin user). But it doesn't fix the issue, I still cant open x11 from my main account. Do you know what cause it?
gdm or lightdm? whats that? I rarely install things, think of me as regular user that use regular os to do regular things. lol
recently I only install things from default Software app. Rarely use terminal to install things anymore.
Hmm.. app that I install recently is:
- Krita. Before I cant login to x11 I installed newer Krita (Flathub), and I uninstalled the one from Zorin OS, because it outdated. Then I play around with Krita AI Diffusion.
- Gnome boxes
- Dolphin Emulator, I install it after i cant login to x11 because I want to play my Wii game. I installed the Flathub version, because the Snap version is outdated and cant open in Wayland.
If I remember correctly I haven't updated the OS via Software Update since Sunday (3 Aug) I can still login properly to x11 until yesterday (8 Aug). And I only update software through the Software Update. Not even use terminal anymore.
Hardware is:
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4060
CPU: Intel i5
RAM: 32GB
You could try the last solution of @Ponce-De-Leon in the linked thread (the last post there).
I've uncommented WaylandEnable=false from /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and it only remove wayland option when you login. And yes I still cannot login to x11 from my main user.
God, i was panicked. I thought I cannot login to my main user anymore. Lucky I still have new user and elevate it to admin and put back the wayland.
I am very sorry about that. I was also afraid that something like that might happen.
Hmm ... that is weird. When You logged in in Wayland open the Terminal and type:
sudo apt reinstall zorin-os-desktop
That will reinstall the Zorin Desktop. After this try again with Xorg.
