Frustrated because I can't even get to step one. I've got Zorin on USB drive but can't get the Surface Laptop 4 to the boot menu. It just skips right on to Widows 11 no matter what I do. I searched here and found a post very similar. The advice was to disable quick startup. I've done that and no change. The bootup to Windows 11 is undefeated after dozens more attempts.
Maybe this guide can help:
Perhaps it helps to disable secure boot.
Welcome to the Forum!
Can You go in the BIOS? If yes, look there for something like ''Boot Order'' and look if the USB Drive is detected. If yes: Try it with starting from the BIOS.
The Surface UEFI is the only alternate screen I can get to during bootup. Under Devices Docking USB Port is turned on. Under Boot configuration I've enabled and dragged USB storage to the top of the list. On advanced options I have Enable alternate boot sequence turned on, Enable IPv6 for PXE Network boot option turned on, Enable Boot from USB devices turned on, Enable Boot Configuration Lock turned off and Enable Battery Limit turned off. I've repeatedly restarted from the UEFI screen while holding the F12 key (the correct key for the surface laptop4) and it boots straight to Windows 11 every time.
I have been to that page and followed it step by step and this damned possessed machine still boots through to Windows 11
Secure boot is disabled. the red bar appears on the top of the screen during startup.
I wonder if this helps, as is specific to Surface 4. How to USB boot a Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 | just another windows noob ?
Thanks for the suggestion but that's the first website I tried when it didn't work on the first go through. I had read Surface laptops can be troublesome to switch to Linux so I searched specifically for Surface laptop 4.
I did find the solution. I used a different (bigger) USB drive and used RUFUS instead of Balena Etchter. Loaded right up on the first try. The Surface laptops are very nice hardware. Now mine is set free from Microslop OS!
Thanks Everybody!
