Cannot mirror display

Am brand new to Zorin and a lightly-experienced linux newb. I just installed Zorin Lite (16) on a Lenovo Legion laptop. Really like the OS so far. I'm trying to mirror my laptop display on my 32" LG monitor, but it seems the OS is not recognizing the second monitor.

I've run the software updater, and haven't yet installed any apps or programs besides what is included out-of-the-box. When I plug the HDMI into my laptop, Zorin doesn't detect anything... even though I have 'Configure new displays when detected' and 'Automatically enable profiles when new display is connected' enabled.

The laptop has a GeForce GTX 1060 Mobile GPU, and the 'Additional Drivers' app indicates 'using NVIDIA driver metapackage from nvidia-driver-460 (proprietary)'.

This is a brand new, fresh install of Zorin Lite, and the only thing I've done so far is update the software. I am just trying to mirror the display, and it seems like this should be easy. But I'm clearly missing something. What am I doing wrong?

Just to clarify, Zorin OS 15.3 Lite, right?
In terminal, what does:

xrandr --query

yield?
Following this, what does:

xrandr --output HDMI1 --auto

yield?

Ok, is this a notebook computer and you are hooking up an HDMI external monitor?

Lenovo Legion y7000P-1060 laptop

And yes, hooking up to external monitor via HDMI.

I believe that this may be where the trouble is... There is a stream all down the internet on Lenovo notebooks not recognizing HDMI monitors on ubuntu - based distros.
What is your output of

uname -a

A kernel higher than 5.5 may produce much better results.
How do you feel about Zorin OS 16?

'uname -a' yields...

Linux orion-laptop 5.4.0-81-generic #91~18.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 23 13:36:29 UTC 2021 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

As far as Zorin 16 goes, I have no feeling about it one way or another. I am trying out Z-lite as a way to get away from Windows. I need something that makes the Windows-Linux transition smooth so less techy family members can transition. Do you think I need Z-16? Does that solve this HDMI issue?

I think it has a good chance of doing so.
Lite is not yet released for Zorin OS 16. However, we can set you up with a very light and easy to configure and use XFCE desktop now. And since 15.3 Lite is what you have been familiarizing yourself with- it will remain familiar.
Why not download a copy of Zorin OS 16 Core and run a Live USB Try Zorin. The layout will be less familiar on it, but I am sure you can manage. Test the Monitor and see if it works. If it does, then let's go for that.

OK. I'll give that a try and report back. Thanks so much for the assistance.

OK. Got Zorin 16 installed and now the HDMI & mirror are working fine. The '16 UI seems close to the Zorin Lite, so we'll try this out and see how it goes.

One quick aside... after I got Zorin 16 installed, a new issue popped up where there was a huge lag (~5 secs) between keyboard & mouse button inputs and their manifesting on the screen. The mouse pointer moved just fine... quick and responsive. I also noticed while this was happening that when the screen saver started, there was a real slow transition with borderline frame lock... like the GPU was super bogged down. I eventually enabled NVIDIA vendor drivers for the graphics card and that cleared everything up. System working great now.

Thanks again for assistance!

If you prefer the Lite Desktop... We can install the XFCE4 desktop and help you set that up.
When Zorin OS 16 Lite is officially released, you can then sideways install the Zorin OS Lite desktop.

When is ZL 16 supposed to come out?

It may be a couple months from now. No official date is given.

Great. Thx again.

I think there's another thread nearby where we discuss the differences. But I have been running the XFCE desktop (What is used by Zorin Lite) on Z16 Core since the day I installed it. Fast and smooth.
