Canon printer LBP6000B detected but not working

I think purchasing a new all-in-one like the Pixma TS series would be a better option than running spyware on your computer.

It’s a shame a printer would send someone back to windows again.

Before you depart to never-never land of Windows 11, I have created a video on how to proceed, even though I do not have your printer! Apologies for the poor movie as my Cherry Wireless keyboard, I believe is now coming to its end of life, so you will see some errors. Just installed my USB-wired Vantage keyboard and mouse set! (Will update this post with the Vimeo link once uploaded!)

Here you go:

Not going to lie. I was actually looking at some small HP laser printers today.
Without having seen the full video I want to say you are a god!

Footnote: we need to remember a lot of drivers that didn't come from manufacturers have been reverse engineered by devoted Linux kernel engineers, and a case in point is that package in Synaptic for networked Canon Laserjet Printers. I showed that I did not install it in the video as the OP's printer is not networked. Back in the day with Canon or perhaps other Printers too, but specific to me I owned a Canon i-865 at a time there was no Linux driver; Solution? I looked on the ink cartridge box to see what printers it was designed for, so the Linux kernel/CUPS had a driver for BJC-8800, and that is how I managed to get GNU/Linux to print to my Canon i-865. In my brief encounter with GhostBSD I had to use CUPS with Gutenprint and was sad to see that CUPS have stated they will not support Gutenprint in the future, but wondering if this might be because Gutenprint uses proprietary blobs? I don't know. Having proprietary blobs present in Linux kernel can potentially be used as an attack vector which is why I never us nVidia graphic drivers, only nouveau ones. I'm an nVidia user purely because of my experience in Windows. But my first choice was always Matrox. I was never a fan of ATi which got bought out by AMD. Lying around in a drawer I still have a 3Dfx Voodoo TV Card which obviously won't work now unless connected to a digital receiver, but you could watch foreign channels via VLC!

Update on my keyboard - not the issue! Tried it on my good lady's machine and it works fine. Sussed that the Cherry Wireless transponder must have been getting interference from the extension lead so put the rf dongle in front usb and now working perfectly, so the multi LED keyboard is going back in it's box!

Okay, I followed everything you did in the video, including the Gdebi setup, but it still didn’t work. It says it is printing, but the printer won’t work, and nothing comes out. That’s okay, though—your video convinced me that this community is awesome, and I’ve decided to stick with it. I can’t recall anyone ever making a video specifically for me, let alone for a stranger on the internet.

I ordered a new printer today (a Brother HL-L2445DW) and am staying with Linux-Ubuntu. Zorin OS introduced me to Linux, so I want to thank the devs for that. I’m learning a lot, getting many programs to work, and actually getting real work done on Ubuntu. It feels great to have control over my PC again and to be a part of the Linux community as a fellow penguin bro.

Thanks again for the video! I had a few chuckles when you were retyping your password.

Sorry it didn't work out. Did you try the printer via CUPS using the browser as per the link I provided on how to use CUPS?

You mean the http://localhost:631 interface? Yes I tried that too.

Did you remove the existing printers?

There were no other printers. Just the Canon LBP.
Small update: Today I received a new Brother printer in the mail, the HL-L2400WE. It’s connected via a USB cable on Ubuntu, and the entire setup was plug-and-play. What a difference compared to my old Canon printer! I’m so happy to be able to print again.

Nice to know that Brother is making printers that are for the consumer, not the companies unfettered greed. It just goes to show, your company can still make a profit, without ripping off the consumer. Excellent news! I will mark your post as solved, since you have solved the issue with the new printer.
