Can't get Radeon 9070XT running properly

Hi guys,

I'm brand new to Zorin, I've just installed it and tried to play FFXIV via the XIV launcher, it runs terribly, I suspect that Zorin isn't seeing my 9070XT properly, the game runs fine under Linux Mint (which I'm also new to). I've already tried updating the kernel via Mainline to 16.19.3

Does anyone know of a fix or is it a hopeless cause and I should switch back to mint?

Switching back would be a shame as I already prefer Zorins look/style, thanks in advance

ok if i am reading this correctly you need the mesa drivers mesa 25 for it to work i think the kernel you have is ok its very new but open a terminal and type

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

then type
sudo apt install ocl-icd-libopencl1 mesa-opencl-icd

then search for amd drivers for linux and goto the and site and download one of the top 2 drivers there should be the only ones you can download

  • Open the Files app and navigate to your Downloads folder.
  • Double-click the downloaded driver file (e.g., amdgpu-install_..._all.deb).

then open a terminal and type

gnome-text-editor admin:///usr/bin/amdgpu-install

  • Replace any instance of "ubuntu" with "zorin" in the script.

    only here

  • Save and close the editor.

then in a terminal type

amdgpu-install -y

after all this reboot computer

open settings then scroll down to system then about then system info to see if your
vid card is showing correctly

i know thats alot for a new guy but take each step one by one and it should install the vid card im thinking thats a fairly new card

https://www.amd.com/en/support/download/linux-drivers.html
link to driver site choose the ubuntu ones 24.04.4

Thank you for your suggestions, much appreciated. As soon as I get a chance I'll give them a go. Cheers

NP hope it goes well

It's great that you're exploring different Linux distributions. Since you're experiencing performance issues with FFXIV via the XIV launcher on Zorin, and suspecting GPU recognition problems with your 9070XT.

Thanks for all your help, unfortunately it didn't work. I've been trying some other things as well but no joy, I think it's a case of waiting for new drivers/kernel. I'll head back to Mint for a while, hopefully an update soon. Thanks again though much appreciated
