Hi, I hope someone can help me. Managed to install zorin core on my old toshiba satellite and newer win 10 laptop so I wanted the pro version for my main desktop running win 8.1. It's a hp envy I bought 12 years ago. I figured out how to disable the secure boot and fast boot also the legacy thing in the boot menu. usb is now selected for number one order and yet it continues to boot win! My day off is almost over and I still have got nowhere. Hoping a kind soul out there will tell me what i missed.
When you created the LiveUSB, what etcher did you use?
Is it set to GPT EFI?
rufus and gpt
From the initial Motherboard splash screen, have you tried mashing the esc or F9 key to get that HP one time boot menu to select the USB?
Also - when you are booted into Windows - hit the control panel - power settings and ensure that Fast Startup is Disabled. That is not actually boot or startup - it just hibernates Windows OS.
thx for reply yes i selected both
I did the power settings thing in windows and finally got into the boot menu, disabled fast boot and secure. It also haf a legacy setting which I set to disable since uefi was listed for my desktop.hp envy circa 2013. 12 ram 1nd a 17-4770 with 500 hdd. Want so badly to install this os
Fast boot in the UFI (BIOS) Settings is a different thing from Windows Power settings (From within the OS) called Fast Startup (Or in early editions, Fast Boot).
Which are you referring to - or did you snag them both?
yes did both
In the F9 one time boot menu, does the USB show listed at all?
Wasn't taking any chances and I just checked again in the bios, still all disable and usb selected number 1 boot order
I hit F10 to get in on my desktop bios, is the F9 different? Am a complete noob.
Yes, HP has a One Time Boot menu - and it is tricky to reach. It may take multiple tries...
From the Motherboard splash screen, bap the esc key - when you see the Startup menu from that - tap the F9 key in order to reach the One Time boot menu - and try selecting the USB stick.
will do
think I got it, says please select boot device
uefi:ipv6realtek pcie gbe family controller
windows boot manager
uefi: ipv4 realtek pcie bge family controller
legacy boot sources
white triangle indicator on the top line
no usb
Is there a way to make it find the usb?
Since the USB is not showing up there... I wonder if your HP Firmware is seeking Legacy (MBR) only.
Are you willing to try recreating the USB in Rufus as MBR instead of EFI?
yes I'll try anything to get this to work, fell in love with zorin core, was only planning to put it on 1 pc, this is #3 I'm at
Wanted the pro on my main pc
Still working it but win is so slow
Trying to get rufus to let me select the iso but unless i select free dos the start is unavailable in mbr. Had a lot of trouble earlier with that. usbis in exfat tho will keep at it
