I have three disks on my desktop: a 1TB NVME SSD (main drive in which I have Zorin OS installed), a 500 GB SATA SSD and a 1TB HDD.
I was trying to run Jurassic World Evolution 3 on Zorin, but couldn't so I installed Windows 11 on the 500GB SATA SSD since I wasn't really using it for anything.
Before doing the windows install on my second drive I was able to add, move and delete files on all for of my disks without any issue. However, after I did I am no longer able to add, move or delete any files on my 1TB HDD, even though I didn't "touch" it during my windows install.
I am unable to take ownership of the disk and don't really know what to do to fix this issue. What should I do?
Usually, if you can reformat it as EXT4 instead of a windows format you can successfully take ownership. At least that's been my experience. Windows probably gave ownership to root somehow. Can you copy the stuff you need to a USB stick or to one of your other drives first then copy back after reformatting?
Can You still access the Drive? When You open in Zorin ''Disks'', choose the Drive and click on the Gear Icon, do You have the Option ''Take Ownership''?
I was trying to avoid taking that rout as I have almost 400gb of stuff in it. It's not impossible by any strech, just very inconvinient as I don't really have anything with 400gb of available storage to do it with.
Okay, could You install GParted and then show the Drive in it please? It is a Partitioning Tool that could provide more Infos. You can install it in the Terminal with the Command sudo apt install gparted
When installed, open it and choose Your Drive and then post a Screenshot of it please.
I had the same. Greyed out when a windows format but comes back with a Ext format. Things like chown didn't work for me either.
Do you have a cloud back up available you could use while formatting?

Yes, it's okay. It is formatted in NTFS. That could be a Factor. Zorin supports it the neccessary Package should be preinstalled. But the Support itself can be a bit ... difficult.
Normally, I would suggest to format the Drive to ext4 but You have a Windows Install. And when You want access the Drive with Windows, too it wouldn't work good. Or wouldn't work at all. It is a bit of a Dilemma.
An Option could be what @NickS already has posted: Buy a 2nd Drive and use it for Zorin and format it in ext4, but this would mean, You have to buy another Drive.
Well, then - if possible to do - I would suggest to format it to ext4. Can You copy the Data temporarly to another Storage Device? I see that it is quite a lot but could be worth a Try.
I mean yeah, I guess. I'll have to do it eventually. Not really in a rush to do it, but I assume formating it will solve it. A shame I can't solve it any other way that's not as bothersome. Ugh
