Running 17.2 - Just installed last month and getting used to the new version.
Looking thru posts on the Zorin Forum I found out about a file manager program that is more like the one in Windows, called Nemo. So I installed it (using APT) and it works great, but the icon (and name) is exactly like the native manager (Nautilus). At first I was going to ask how to change the icon for Nemo, but I found a post - "[HOW TO] Make Nemo the default file manager on Zorin", on one of the help forums here. I ran the commands in terminal but it made no difference.
I expected that when I right clicked on an image on a webpage and choose "save image as" that Nemo would launch. Instead, I still get Nautilus.
Can I remove Nautilus from my system safely?
Will that make Nemo my default file mgr or is there something else I need to do - and in what order does it need to be done?
Here we must seperate 2 Things: Nautilus what You open with the Icon and what opens when you have picked a File. They look similar but these are two different Things. That is a Gnome Thing.
The same with the Names. But You can change the Name of Nemo to Nemo. Open the Terminal and type sudo nano /usr/share/applications/nemo.desktop and in the opening Window, You have to change the Name from Files to Nemo and on Your Language (in my Case german):
After that, press ctrl+o to save the Change, Enter to confirm and ctrl+x to exit. Don't forget that! After that You can close the Terminal. then You can see that it is changed to Nemo (maybe make a Reboot to affect):
To change the Nemo Icon, open Main Menu, look for the Nemo Entry and then click on Properties and then You see a little Window. To change the Icon click on it and then pick an Icon that You want:
The file picker itself is a separate component, so it's neither Nautilus nor Nemo, but it is made to be similar to Nautilus for consistency, as that's the default file manager out of the box. Unfortunately, I'm not sure this can be changed, at least not easily.
I you download a file using the browser, you should be able to click on the "open folder" (or something around those lines), and that would launch the proper file manager, hopefully Nemo.
Wie geht es Ihnen?,
(That is about the only German that I remember from high school). I tried your solution and it worked. The icon is changed is for Nemo.
Now if I can just figure out how to get Nemo to be the default program for Zorin...
i'm on Lite but it should be similar for you
press win key and start typing default , then go to default applications , under utilities you'll see file manager where you can choose from drop down box
(don't know if it works on gnome)
