Hello, I’m having a consistent issue with Google Chrome on Zorin OS.
Whenever I join a Google Meet call or open Gmail, Chrome crashes and shows the error:
RESULT_CODE_KILLED_BAD_MESSAGE
I’ve already increased the inotify watchers to 524288 (to fix Obsidian and other Electron apps), so that part is solved.
However, Chrome still keeps crashing.
If I disable Hardware Acceleration in Chrome, the problem completely disappears.
No crashes, no errors — everything works normally.
This strongly suggests the issue is related to the NVIDIA driver + Chrome GPU process.
My GPU is a RTX 5080, so I suspect the current driver version shipped with Zorin/Ubuntu may not be fully stable for this model.
System specs:
- i7-12700K
- 32 GB DDR5
- NVIDIA RTX 5080
Does anyone know what’s causing Chrome’s GPU process to crash on Zorin OS with newer NVIDIA GPUs?
Should I install a newer driver (from the graphics-drivers PPA) or is there a known fix/flag for this?
