we're currently experiencing a problem with Citrix Workspace on Zorin OS 18.1 Core. When we open a .ica file, the client starts loading, but nothing else happens. After roughly a minute or two, the program just crashes.
Before installing the .1 update it worked fine.
The client is installed according to your guide. Any ideas on what could cause the problem?
Do you have installed Citrix Workspace without the app protection component? When you choose the installation with app protection, there are often problems in Zorin.
Sadly that didn't help. The thing is, that on base version 18 it runs without any problems. When I install the patch for 18.1, it suddenly doesn't. So some library that the Citrix client is using was updated with the patch and broke it. But what library that is I'm not sure.
I did a search with Ubuntu 24.04 in the criteria as that is what Zorin 18 is based on.
Brave A.I. Search via Mojeek gives:
" Citrix Workspace fails on Ubuntu 24.04 because the OS replaced the older libwebkit2gtk-4.0 libraries with version 4.1, which the app cannot find. The most direct fix is to install the missing library by adding the Ubuntu 22.04 (Jammy) repository temporarily:
If the app still fails to launch, you may need to create symbolic links for other missing dependencies (like libicui18n.so.70 ) or install additional packages such as libva-drm2 and libva-x11-2 for video acceleration. Alternatively, users can access Citrix via the web browser by changing the default handler for .ica files, which bypasses the desktop client entirely.
Alright, coming closer. With the older Libwebkit it didn't work under Wayland. Just using Xorg instead of Wayland did work. In version 18.0 Wayland did work. So my guess here is now, that the update to Wayland in version 18.1 is the main problem. But what changed there I really don't know sadly. We will change it to Xorg for the meantime, but I wouldn't call that a solution
Alright. Installed a fresh build of Zorin OS 18 and ignored it's request for the 18.1 upgrade. In that version it also ships with libwebkit2gtk 4.1.0. And no problems with opening .ica files with the Workspace client under Wayland. So, basically it is a problem with either Wayland or a library that talks to Wayland in the backend.
But to find out what causes this is a problem Citrix needs to find out as they only know that. They have the sourcecode.
Our solution to this will now be that we change the desktop enviroment to Xorg from Wayland.
