Clevo systems on zorin

Hello,

So i have tried to run zorin os and test this out before paying for the pro version only to find out it doesnt work well in terms of hardware fans.

So i installed the core version and had some immediate issues.
One of them, is temperature.

The hardware is Clevo x170kmg laptop. purchased at metabox.
When i run Zorin, i am unable to have a reasonable fan control that prevents it from over heating. fan kicks in before failure but not before the entire laptop is throttling and the laptop case is almost on fire. (at least extremely hot to touch.)

Linux works on this laptop and i have zero issue with this problem when running TuxedoOS.

What would the best approach to this be in order to be able to use zorin as my primary OS so i can move away from tuxedo. ive been using tuxedo for years and im looking to use Zorin Pro, as my primary OS.

I am a professional creative and TD i work in Film VFX and i need my system to remain cool and controllable as when i simulate fluid, pyro or render or when im compositing. i cannot have it become unreliable.

to be clear the OS runs otherwise, how ever i cannot keep it cool.
My temperatures are normal between 35c and 70c idle and under load on tuxedo.
in zorin it was well over 90*c and fan was not engaged until cpu throttled.

i plan to move over my other pc's but i dont want to do that until i have a solution to this problem if it is possible.

if there is options that allow me to control it with a fan curve available that work, im open to that as well.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Forum!

Don't You have in Your BIOS Option to set up a Fan Curve? Did You checked the System Monitor for Temperatures and heavy-load Processes?

Hey thanks for reply, there is no such options available in the bios. it must be done in software with these laptops hi have no idea why they would not put it in, but alas it is not available, however in tuxedo is it through their control center software. I attempted to install their software and got funky results, im currently messing with their package to try and get that to work as intended. and its working for the cpu governor but the fan control curves are available but not applying. so i thought id ask and see if any one had an option that was tied/related to zorin rather than port over a tool from another OS. i think i can get it working but if there is better options ill take that over a hacky fix lol

I deliberately put the system under load before i commit to a permanent solution like an OS change, when i do a test it is under load causing the temps. but my issue is that the fans do not turn on til much later / hotter and they don't fire up all the way, so i cant keep it cool.

On tuxedo I'm able to set the fans to 100% at 60c which i do, and it never gets beyond 75 under 100% load.

how ever zorin my temps are well above that just idling on a fresh boot and the fans are not more than approx 30% i can barely hear them.

thank you for the welcome.
I ended up purchasing the OS regardless today, i like what i see and even if i have some problems with the fans i think its worth the support.

There would be a Program called Fan Control:
